Best NCAA Basketball Picks and Predictions December 6

Here are some of my favorite picks in some of Saturday’s smaller matchups. Rapid fire edition.

Boise State vs. Butler Picks NCAA Basketball Picks

Michael Ajayi is third in the nation in rebounds per game, snagging 12.0 for the Bulldogs - NCAA Basketball Picks

Michael Ajayi is third in the nation in rebounds per game, snagging 12.0 for the Bulldogs

Best Bet: Butler -6 (-110) BetOnline

The Bulldogs host the Broncos in what will be Boise State’s first true road game. I will not let anyone forget that this team lost to a Division-II school to start their season. No disrespect to that level (proud D-II grad here), but you gotta be better, and Boise just isn’t all that good. They’ve lost both of their games against top 50 opponents and like to play slow.

Things will get sped up by Butler. The hosts rank No. 33 in pace and will get their visitors out of their comfort zone. Despite the speed, the Bulldogs actually have the offense to keep up with themselves. Butler ranks fifth in the country in offensive rebounds and No. 17 in free throw rate. Overall, they are No. 32 in adjusted offensive efficiency and top 25 in eFG%. They will be tough to slow down at home, and I don’t see Boise keeping up.

Youngstown State vs. IU Indianapolis NCAA Basketball Picks

Best Bet: Youngstown/IU Indy Over 174 (-110) BetOnline

Points, points, points! The IU Indy Jaguars (RIP IUPUI) are the fastest team in the nation, averaging over 80 possessions per game. They will certainly keep this game moving as fast as they can, and the visitors can keep up. The Youngstown State Penguins are still top 120 in pace, so they are used to playing with some tempo. The Jaguars offense is much better than their defense, as IU Indy is north of 340 in eFG% defense and rebounding, while ranking No. 329 in FT Rate defense. They run and shoot a ton of threes (over 34 three point attempts per game).

As for the Penguins, they shoot plenty of threes as well and get up and down. The pace alone will get us over this number, and the visitors should cover the spread.

Princeton vs. Loyola Chicago NCAA Basketball Picks

Best Bet: Princeton +5 (-110) BetOnline

Back the Tigers with me on the road in the Windy City. Loyola Chicago is having a horrendous season, sitting at just 2-7 on the year. However, after winning their first game of the season, they went on to lose their next seven straight. But the Ramblers are coming off snapping that streak, by beating… *checks notes*… No. 304 Central Michigan? Congrats to them, but now it’s back down to Earth.

Now, Princeton isn’t all that, and they are on their own five game losing streak. However, they have lost their last four games by a combined 16 total points while covering every one of those spreads. To say “they’re due” would be a major understatement. They are right on the edge of victory.

Loyola Chicago is bottom 40 in terms of pace, and Princeton is No. 254 in the country, so I don’t expect very many possessions. Give me a low scoring game that the Tigers can keep within a couple scores, and even win outright.

Oklahoma vs. Arizona State NCAA Basketball Picks

Tae Davis puts up 13.5 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Sooners this season - NCAA Basketball Picks

Tae Davis puts up 13.5 points and 7.3 rebounds for the Sooners this season

Best Bet: Oklahoma -3.5 (-110) BetOnline

Lastly, end your night with the Sooners out west. Despite being in Arizona, this is not a home game for the Sun Devils, but it might feel like it. Regardless, give me Porter Moser’s team. Bart Torvik has the Sooners by five, Eric Haslam has them by six, and Greg Peterson likes them up to seven. I’ll trust those smarter than me in this spot.

The Sooners are slower, but very efficient, doing pretty much everything right on offense. They are in the top 70 in eFG% and offensive rebounding, plus Oklahoma is top 25 in overall efficiency and top 20 in turnover rate. They take good care of the basketball, rank top 40 in 2P%, and keep teams off of the free throw line, ranking top 25 in free throw rate defense.

Arizona State’s lack of defense was exposed against USC in the Maui Championship. The Sun Devils are north of 280 in 2P% defense and north of 260 in free throw rate defense as well. I see the Sooners stealing a victory in the desert.
