Let’s get right into Sunday’s NCAA Basketball picks. Sure, there is plenty of NFL action you can check out here, but we’ve got to show love for some College Hoops. Especially with the season we have been having. Here we go.

Starting off at 1:30 p.m. eastern down in the Pensacola Invitational, we are backing the Ospreys to cover in the consolation game. Both these teams lost yesterday, Prairie View to UT-Martin, and North Florida to Southern Miss. We will get to the Championship game here in a bit. Point is, both teams are looking to bounce back after a loss, but one is much closer to home than the other.

I would imagine these Panther players are yearning for their beds at home after playing three straight road games, followed by this tournament in Florida. We have two crazy fast teams, both ranking in the top 50 in possessions per game this season, but the Ospreys can handle the volume better. And they also will control the perimeter.

The Ospreys have taken 30+ three points attempts in the past four games, and took 28 against Florida. They take over 53% of their shots from deep (top 10 in the country), and knock them down at a 36.5% clip. Plus they shot 15/30 from downtown last night in this same gym. Defensively, North Florida is top 60 in 3P rate and are No. 7 in 3P% Defense, holding their foes to less than 23.5%.

Prairie View is north of 300 in 3P rate offense and 3P% Defense, plus they are north of 250 shooting percentage, knocking down just 30% of their shots from deep. This team is also bottom 10 in eFG% and offensive rebounding, so I could see the Ospreys dominating the glass and covering this number.

Brown Bears vs. Maine Black Bears NCAA Basketball Picks

Best Bet: Maine +3.5 (-110) BetOnline

We’ve got the Bears taking on the Black Bears in Maine, and we’re backing the home underdog. Maine is catching 3.5 points at home to a Brown team that really isn’t all that great. Plus, they are back at home and are still looking for their first win of the season. Both teams are plenty slow, ranking north of 300 in tempo, so there probably won’t be many points to begin with.

Maine’s offense hasn’t lived up to standard, but their defense has. The Black Bears rank top 100 in eFG% Defense and 3P Rate Defense, while also ranking top five in 3P% Defense, holding opponents to 23.2% from beyond the arc. They’ve been battle tested, playing two 120 teams already (one of whom is top 50), and Brown doesn’t have a win over a team ranked outside the bottom 30.

While Maine is still north of 300, we don’t need a win. All we need is the home dog (bear) to bark loud enough to cover the single possession in front of their own crowd.

Headed back to Pensacola for the Championship of this tournament, and we are backing the Skyhawks. Their one loss this season came on the road against the Florida State Seminoles (No. 73 in the country), but they have wins over UNLV (No. 90) and Bradley (No. 127). The Skyhawks are making a name for themselves despite ranking No. 306 on Bart Torvik at the moment.

This team ranks top 50 in eFG%, and they get to the free throw line almost 57% of the time, ranking top 10 in the country. The Skyhawks aren’t afraid to play fast, having four of their fives games go over 73 possessions, and they light it up from deep. As a team, UT-Martin shoots 37.4% from deep, and do so on 48.5% of their trips to the offensive side of the floor, which is top 65 in both categories. Defensively, they are top 60 eFG% as well.

Southern Miss took it to South Carolina on the road, but that was their only game against a top 100 opponent. Other than that, they’ve beaten two lower division teams, No. 348 North Florida yesterday, and lost to Buffalo and Grambling, who are in the low 300s as well. UT-Martin have already put themselves on the map this year, and winning this tournament before a nice two week break could really give them confidence going forward.
