Best NCAA Basketball Picks and Predictions November 15

Penn State Nittany Lions vs. La Salle Explorers NCAA Basketball Picks

Jaeden Marshall is putting up 16.7 points per game for La Salle this season - NCAA Basketball Picks

Jaeden Marshall is putting up 16.7 points per game for La Salle this season

Best Bet: La Salle +7.5 (-105) BetOnline

BetOnline is giving us over three possessions to work with for the Explorers, and I’ve been much more impressed with them so far this season. Penn State barely squeaked by Fairfield and Navy at home, and now face La Salle on a neutral site in Philadelphia. The Explorers are coming off a loss to Temple on the road, but beat Coppin State and Monmouth pretty easily to begin their season. This is the perfect bounce back spot for them to cover.

We are going to see a very slow game. La Salle ranks No. 275 in pace according to Bart Torvik, while Penn State is almost in the 200s as well. The Nittany Lions have not had a game go over 70 possessions this season, averaging just 66.7 trips up and down the floor per game. La Salle saw their first game go for 74 possessions, but the last two have stayed well under 70, averaging just 69 possessions per contest. We aren’t going to see many opportunities for the Nittany Lions to cover this number.

I could see them overlooking an inferior team (La Salle ranks No. 197 in the country while Penn State is No. 98), and with this likely being a low scoring contest, I trust the underdogs to keep it within a couple scores.

#3 UConn Huskies vs. #7 BYU Cougars NCAA Basketball Picks

Solo Ball is scoring 18.3 points per game for the Huskies this season - NCAA Basketball Picks

Solo Ball is scoring 18.3 points per game for the Huskies this season

Best Bet: UConn -6.5 (-110) BetOnline

Now if you caught my full article last night when it came out, you might’ve been able to snag the Huskies at -3.5 like I did. Regardless, they should win this game, cover this number, and leave no doubt. Sure, UConn has not been battle tested and have only covered the spread once in their three games, but they still have Dan Hurley at the helm.

Plus, this “neutral site” game is in Boston, making it much easier for the Husky faithful to travel and support their team. BYU has already been to Vegas and back home and now heads all the way to the northeast to take on their toughest opponent yet. Villanova wasn’t too big of a test, and I see the Cougars’ youth getting exposed in this one.

BYU’s Youth Will Be Exposed

BYU relies heavily on just three guys to score, AJ Dybantsa, Richie Saunders and Robert Wright. Those three account for over 70% of the Cougars’ scoring this year, and Dybantsa and Wright can’t even legally drink a beer. They are so young and unexperienced compared to the Huskies, and if UConn can lock down those three, BYU will have to turn to other players to put the ball in the hoop. Plus Kennard Davis (fourth leading scorer for BYU) was just arrested for the suspicion of DUI.

Now, all eight Husky players that average at least 20 minutes per game this season are all upperclassmen. They are in at least their third season of college hoops, bringing tons of veteran leadership and maturity to this team. The only young guy getting significant time on the court is 7’1″ center Eric Reibe, meaning UConn usually has plenty of grown men on the floor at all times.

Give me the Huskies in this spot with all of their maturity in what will feel like a home game.
