It is officially time to fade Arizona—the Wildcats are too hot and massively overperforming. They have won four straight over Oklahoma State, Colorado, Iowa State, and Arizona State, all by nearly double digits. But this is one of the most inconsistent teams in the country, and after beating Iowa State and their in-state rival, they are due for a letdown. Now, BYU is ready to test just how legitimate they really are.

The Cougars have been dominant at home, ranked 17th in the country by Haslametrics, while Arizona sits at 313th out of 364. This game fits the “unranked home favorite versus ranked opponent” trend, but that alone is not the deciding factor. Arizona also has to quickly shift focus to hosting Texas Tech on Saturday, which could lead to a sluggish performance. Meanwhile, BYU’s home crowd will be electric, making this an even tougher test for the Wildcats.

BYU boasts one of the nation’s top offenses, ranked fifth overall by Bart Torvik, and sits inside the top 25 in nearly every offensive category. Defensively, they remain a top-50 team, dominate the boards, and limit fouls. Their biggest weakness is getting to the line and converting free throws, where they rank in the high 200s. However, Arizona has struggled with putting opponents on the line, ranking 212th in free throw rate defense, which could work in BYU’s favor.

After narrowly escaping Iowa State in a game they should have lost and following it up with an emotional win over Arizona State, the Wildcats feel primed for a letdown. Give me the unranked home dog to take down the overachieving Wildcats.
