Happy NBA Cup Day. We’re on the second day of the Knockout Stage and we’ve got two tasty matchups on the docket.
Everything kicks off with the Phoenix Suns in Oklahoma City, both teams facing off for the second time in less two weeks and the second time in this tournament. After that, we finish the night in Hollywood. The Spurs have made the trip out west and will take on Luka and the Lakers.
Winners go to Vegas, losers go home.

Luka Dončić o3.5 3s (-108) | BetOnline

Luka Dončić is a Lakers and I hate it so much. The Slovenian has been absolutely balling this year and it’s helped the Lakers win 17 of their first 23 games this year. Los Angeles sits 2nd in the Western Conference, behind only the Oklahoma City Thunder and that could be the opponent they face in this next round.
Luka’s averaging 35.0 points, 9.2 rebounds and 9.1 assists per game. He leads the Lakers in all three categories and it’s looked effortless so far. He’s shooting 47.2% from the field this year but just 33.5% from beyond the arc. He’s taking a career high 10.8 3-point attempts per game this year and it’s definitely affected his percentages.
This year against his former division, the Southwest, Luka has absolutely gone bonkers. In 5 games so far this year against the Southwest, he’s averaging 34.4 points, 9.0 rebounds and 9.8 assists per game. He’s averaging 4.2 3s made per game and shooting 38.2% from beyond the arc.
It’s obvious that Luka’s got a ton of experience against these teams, having played his first 7-seasons in Dallas. Earlier this year against the Spurs, Luka scored 35 points, shot 4/11 from and had a near triple double.
The Spurs rank 16th in 3s allowed, 29th in 3s allowed to the PG position and 26th in opponent 3-point percentage. They’ve done a poor job on the perimeter and I’m expecting to Luka to take advantage tonight in Hollywood.
Dillon Brooks o18.5 Points (-105) | BetOnline

Dillon Brooks is a culture. What he brings to your team doesn’t just show up on a box score, but all throughout your locker room. This Suns team was projected to be one of the worst in the league and it looked like a gap year for the once competitive Phoenix Suns.
We’re now 24 games into the 2025/26 season, the Suns have won 14 games and sit 7th in the Western Conference. There’s still a ton of ball left to be played but it’s easy to see how they’ve over-performed during this first quarter of the season.
One big reason why, Dillon Brooks. Brooks is the Suns’ second leading scorer, averaging 22.1 points per game on shooting splits of 45/30/82. Brooks is seeing a career high usage in Phoenix and he’s rewarded the Suns with some stellar play. The shooting splits haven’t been the best, but it’s his first year with the Suns and first time seeing this much usage.
Tonight the Suns face the Thunder in the knockout stage of the NBA’s Emirates Cup. These two just faced off on the last night of the Group Stage, with the Thunder edging out the Suns 123-119. Brooks finished with 19 points but shot an abysmal 30% from the field. He took 18 shot attempts and went 2/9 from beyond the arc.
The Thunder represent the #1 defense in the NBA but they’ve struggled to guard the perimeter. Oklahoma City ranks 24th in 3s allowed this year, 20th in opponent 3-point percentage, and 26th in 3s allowed to the SG position. The team also ranks 26th in points allowed to SGs and that’s exactly why we’re looking to target Brooks.
Lastly, Brooks has taken 17+ shot attempts in 8 of his L10 games. Tonight’s game represents a winner take all environment and that’s exactly why I’m confident in the volume we see from Brooks tonight.
