Thunder vs. Pacers | Analysis

Oklahoma City Thunder, Champs 2025

Defending Champs

The Oklahoma City enter this year as the reigning champs and kicked off the 2025/26 season with an absolute banger against the Rockets. The two teams battled for four quarters, but it wasn’t enough to find a winner. We needed TWO overtime periods in GAME ONE of the season, and after all that it was the Thunder that walked away with the 1-point win.

The season’s off to a crazy start and tonight it gets even better. We’ve got a rematch of last year’s NBA Finals, albeit without a few key names on the side of Indiana. Oklahoma City scored 125 points in their season opener with Shai Gilgeous-Alexander and Chet Holmgren combing for 63 of the team’s points.

Jalen Williams remains out of the lineup as he recovers from wrist surgery on his shooting hand. Cason Wallace started the opener in his place, making an immediate impact with 14 points, 7 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals. He played 42 minutes against the Rockets but seems to have sustained some knee issues. His status for tonight remains in question and it’s something Indiana could look to take advantage of if he does sit.

Heartbreak in Indianapolis

The Indiana Pacers were an absolute marvel to watch play basketball last year. They started the season rough but finished the year 4th in the Eastern Conference with 50 wins and both Pascal Siakam and Tyrese Haliburton were named All-Stars. In the first round the Pacers ran into Giannis and the Milwaukee Bucks, making quick work of them in just five games.

In the second round the Pacers went toe to toe with the top seeded Cavaliers. The Pacers stole both Games 1 & 2 on the road, eventually finishing the series in just five games. Lastly, the New York Knicks. The Pacers once again took both Games 1 & 2 on the road, but needed six games to finish off the Knicks.

In the NBA Finals, up against the #1 team in the NBA and the Pacers take Game 1 on the road. The Pacers won SEVEN road games during this run to the Finals and now sat tied with the Thunder 3-3, Game 7 on the road in Oklahoma City. Seven minutes into the game, Haliburton tears his achilles. Silence, sadness and disbelief is all anyone could feel. The Thunder eventually went on to win the game by 12 points and the Pacers were left wondering ‘what if?’.

Now Indiana comes into the season with a very different looking lineup. Haliburton’s set to miss the entire season, Myles Turner signed with their division rival Milwaukee and T.J. McConnell’s still nursing a hamstring issue.

Our Best Bet in the Thunder vs. Pacers, October 23rd

Pascal Siakam o7.5 Rebounds (+115) | BetOnline

Pascal Siakam

Like I said, the Pacers look very different this year. Pascal Siakam will now look to be this team’s #1 scoring option and he’s tied for the tallest body in this starting lineup. Without Myles Turner on this team, with Haliburton and McConnell both on the sidelines; Siakam’s going to have to step up in more ways than one.

The double big lineup the Thunder roll with is one of the toughest to keep at bay and it’s why Siakam will need to make a real effort to clean the glass tonight. Last year the Thunder rank 20th in rebounds allowed and 16th in offensive rebounding percentage. Siakam also cleared this line in five of his nine matchups with the Thunder last year, obviously including the Finals.

In their two regular season meetings, Siakam finished with 10 and 9 rebounds respectively and we’ll need more of the same tonight.
