Spurs vs. Lakers | Analysis
Tres Leches
The Lakers have won six of their first eight games this year, Lebron has yet to suit up, Luka’s played in just four of the team’s games and they’re coming off a huge win with both Luka/Reaves out of the lineup. Whatever Coach Reddick’s doing in Hollywood seems to be working and the fans couldn’t be happier.
Luka’s averaging 41.3 points per game, in addition to 11.5 rebounds and 8.3 assists per game. He’s shooting 54.5% from the field and just looks unstoppable. Next to him, it’s been AR15 having a career start to his year. Through just seven games, Reaves is averaging 31.1 points, 5.1 rebounds and 9.3 assists per game. He’s doing it while shooting 48.9% from the field and he’s played in seven of the Lakers eight games.
Lastly, we have to talk about Jake LaRavia; you may know him as ‘who the hell is #12″. LaRavia’s seeing the most minutes he’s ever played and he’s responded with career numbers across the board. He’s averaging 12.6 points, 5.1 rebounds and 3.0 assists per game. He’s shooting 44% from beyond the arc and has given Los Angeles something they desperately needed; perimeter shooting.

Not From this Planet
Victor Wembanyama’s now in his third year in the NBA and he’s made it abundantly clear; he’s here to win a Championship. Through six games, the Spurs have a 5-1 record, Wembanyama’s averaging 26.7 points per game and 13.7 rebounds per contest. The 7’4 center’s shooting 52.7% from the field and just under 80% from the stripe. He’s already the front runner for Defensive Player of the Year and has this Spurs team looking great.
San Antonio’s defense 1st in points allowed, 4th in opponent field goal percentage, 2nd in opponent points in the paint and 2nd in opponent second chance points. The Spurs are the #1 team on the glass this year and while a lot of that is Vic, the bench has been just as good. Their bench ranks top three among bench units in rebounds allowed and offensive rebounds allowed.
Limiting second chance points, fast break points and points in the paint has helped this Spurs team be the best defense so far in the NBA. Victor’s presence in the middle has lead to opponents shooting just 52.3% from within 10-feet, which ranks third best in the NBA this year.

Victor Webanyama o1.5 3s (-120) | BetOnline

There are absolutely zero holes in Victor’s game. He’s able to take you inside and beat you on block. He’ll put the ball on the floor and beat you to the basket or he’ll pull up from three with no hesitation. Wembanyama’s one of the most gifted basketball players we’ve ever seen but this year he’s struggled from three.
Wemby’s volume has also taken a huge dip this year, going from 8.8 attempts per game last year to just 3.5 this year. He’s now taken five attempts in back to back games, shooting 2/10 over that span and tonight he gets a chance to bust out of that slump. Wembanyama’s players the Lakers six times in his career, hitting this line in five of the six games and shooting 37.2% from beyond the arc.
Wembanyama’s also face off with Deandre Ayton three times in his career, hit this line in all three games; shooting 42.9% over the three games. Ayton’s the type of center that does not get over the top on screen or out on perimeter shooters; it’s why he gives up a ton of threes. Similar stretch bigs have seen both a bump in volume from beyond the arc and shooting percentage this year.
Toumani Camara’s played the Lakers twice this year, shooting a combined 7/20 over two games. Julius Randle’s also played them twice, shooting a combined 8/15. Even Bam Adebayo took five threes in their matchup, unfortunately he only made one.
Vic should see a boost in volume today and h’es absolutely due for ‘positive regression’ from three point range.
