Spurs vs. Hornets Prediction and Picks

Three teams (the Kings, Thunder, and Timberwolves) are already in the clubhouse at 4-0, and four more could finish with a perfect preliminary round record. This means that the top tiebreaker for semifinal spots could be point differential.

Entering this matchup, the Spurs (+16.6) are in a strong position, largely due to a 41-point win over the 76ers last Thursday. As a result, they will almost certainly be in with a win of any margin.

The Hornets, meanwhile, have the worst point differential of any of the eight undefeated teams (+8.7), and a win of any margin may not be enough.

The Hornets did at least give their point differential a big boost with an 87-69 win over the Mavericks on Monday. With rookies Liam McNeeley (Achilles tendinopathy) and Sion James (hip soreness) both being rested, KJ Simpson (18 points, seven assists), Kon Knueppel (16 points, 10 rebounds, four assists), and Jericho Sims (13 points) led the way in the win.

Both McNeeley and James were present at yesterday’s shootaround, according to social media. With their potential availability in mind, the Hornets are a strong pick in this matchup against the Spurs. Before missing Monday’s game, McNeeley had put up decent numbers against the Jazz (22 points, 12 rebounds, six assists) and 76ers (14 points, five rebounds).

Player props are hard to come by for NBA Summer League games, but if you can find them, points props for McNeeley, Knueppel, and Simpson might be worth a look, along with points props for San Antonio’s David Jones Garcia, who has scored 24, 21, and 28 points in his first three Las Vegas Summer League games.

Spurs vs. Hornets Prediction: Hornets to win
