Four years ago, Luka Doncic and a heavily favored Slovenia team routed Germany by 24 points in the quarterfinals of the men’s basketball tournament at the Tokyo Olympics. Much has changed since that time, and nothing is more indicative of those changes than Germany vs. Slovenia odds for today’s Eurobasket 2025 quarterfinal.
Four years ago, Slovenia was favored by double digits against Germany in the Olympic quarters. In that game, Slovenia dominated the second half to comfortably cover the spread and move on to the semis, where they narrowly lost to France.
Since then, Germany has become one of the world’s top teams, earning bronze at Eurobasket 2022, winning the FIBA World Cup in 2023, and finishing fourth at the Paris Olympics last year.
In that same period, big things were expected of Slovenia, especially with Doncic’s becoming one of the NBA’s premier players.
But they failed to defend their Eurobasket 2017 title in 2022, falling in an upset loss to Poland in the quarterfinals. At the 2023 FIBA World Cup, they reached the quarters but lost to Canada. Then last year, they failed to even advance out of the Olympic qualifiers, losing to Greece by 28 in a semifinal.
Today’s Eurobasket quarterfinal vs. Germany brings a chance for Slovenia to cast aside some of the recent disappointment. At stake is a semifinal matchup with Finland, who dispatched Georgia 93-79 to reach the final four of Eurobasket for the very first time.
Germany, on the other hand, is the team facing high expectations now. Will they move within two wins of fulling those expectations? Read on for our Germany vs. Slovenia prediction and picks. Germany vs. Slovenia Prediction and Picks
Prediction: Germany to win
It would be foolish to completely write off Slovenia’s chances to pull the upset. When you have Luka Doncic on your team, you can do a lot of things that you wouldn’t do otherwise, especially in international play.
However, he is but one man, and while Germany may not have a Luka-level player, the du of Franz Wagner and Dennis Schroder is an electrifying combo that can combine for 40+ points per game.
Beyond their two best players, Germany has a very capable supporting cast featuring five players averaging at least 8.7 PPG. And they have a team full of guys who can light it up from outside at any given time, from Schroder to Andi Obst to Maodo Lo.
That is a lot to contend with. Too much, in fact, for Slovenia to contend with. Doncic will do his damndest to deliver a semifinal spot for Slovenia, but Germany is just too deep and too good to be denied.
Germany vs. Slovenia Picks
1) Germany/Slovenia Over 180 (-111 at BetOnline)
The total was still 179.5 at BetOnline when it had already moved to 180 at many other sports betting sites, but even though it has now hit 180 there, it still has the best odds.
This is a lofty total to tackle in a 40-minute game, but the points should be flowing from the outset. Germany has scored 100+ points four times in the tournament and is averaging 102.3 points per game for the tournament.
In the Round of 16 against Portugal, they surprisingly scored only 31 points in the first half and trailed by one at the break. But they banished any thoughts of a monumental upset by outscoring Portugal 54-26 in the second half.
Slovenia has settled down a bit after opening Eurobasket by allowing 105 (to Poland) and 103 (to France) points in losses, but that partly has to do with the competition. That includes Italy, who averaged only 78.8 PPG in the tournament.
It’s hard to see Slovenia slowing down Germany all that much, and if they want to stay in it, they are going to have to bag a bushel of buckets themselves. If the over doesn’t hit, it will be a surprise.
2) Luka Doncic Over 50.5 Points + Rebounds + Assists (-120 at Lucky Rebel)
For Slovenia to have any chance at all against Germany, Luka is going to have to do some World’s Strongest Man-level lifting. He has had nine or more assists in four games in the tournament, but against Italy, he dished out a solitary dime and took even more of the offensive load into his own hands, taking 19 shots (and making 11, including 5 of 11 from three) and going to the foul line 16 times (and making 15).
Look for Luka to have more than one assist vs. Germany, but Slovenia need his points, and at minimum, he needs to hit the 30-point mark for the fifth time in the tournament.
Between how much he will need to score, a helpful haul of rebounds (he is averaging 8.3 in the tournament), and at least a few assists, his stat line will be rather full.
3) Dennis Schroder Over 21.5 Points (-120 at Bovada)
Schroder hasn’t hit the 20-point mark in his last three games after opening Eurobasket 2025 with 21 points vs. Montenegro, 23 vs. Sweden, and 26 vs. Lithuania.
But I expect him to be hungry to put a hurting on Slovenia after not having his best game against Portugal. He did score 16 points, but he missed all seven of his three-point attempts after making 42.4% of his triples in group play.
It’s easy to be lulled into thinking of a player like Schroder by his NBA exploits, but he is a beast at international level and a big part of why Germany is expected to go for gold in this tournament. He is made for moments like this on international level and will deliver again tonight for Germany vs. Slovenia.
