With one race remaining in the regular season, the field for the 2025 NASCAR Cup Series championship playoffs is nearly complete.
While Tyler Reddick and Alex Bowman will both be hoping to secure the spots they now tenuously hold following Austin Dillon’s upset win in Saturday’s Cook Out 400 at Richmond Raceway, most of the top NASCAR stars can all relax ahead of Saturday’s regular season finale at Daytona.
That includes newly crowned regular season champion William Byron, who assumed an unassailable advantage by finishing 12th at Richmond, 26 spots ahead of Hendrick Motorsports teammate Chase Elliott and enough to extinguish the hopes of Elliott, Denny Hamlin, Ryan Blaney, and Christopher Bell.
But while Byron will enter the playoffs with an advantage, he does not sit atop the latest NASCAR Cup Series championship odds at BetOnline and other top U.S. sportsbooks. In fact, he isn’t even among the top four, even though he reached the Championship 4 in each of the previous two seasons.

Who are the Favorites to Win This Year’s NASCAR Cup Series Championship?
Kyle Larson
Last year, an unsuccessful (due to weather) attempt to do double duty at the Indianapolis 500 and Coca-Cola 600 ultimately cost Larson the regular season championship and some valuable extra points. In the end, he led the Cup Series with six wins but agonizingly missed out on the Championship 4.
Best Cup Series Championship Result: Larson produced a dominant run in the playoffs in 2021 to secure his lone title to date, winning four of the last five races to close out a 10-win championship campaign.
Denny Hamlin
There is only one thing missing from Hamlin’s illustrious NASCAR Cup Series career: a championship. Will it finally come this season?
Best Cup Series Championship Result: To date, Hamlin’s best championship finish is a runner-up finish in 2010, his fifth full season at the highest level. That year, he held a 33-point lead over Jimmie Johnson with two races remaining but finished outside of the top 10 at Phoenix and Homestead to lose out by 39 points.
Ryan Blaney
After winning the title in 2023, Blaney came up just short of becoming the first driver to repeat as Cup Series champion since Jimmie Johnson’s run of five consecutive championships from 2006 to 2010.
With the way that Team Penske has owned Phoenix Raceway the last few Novembers, all he may need is one timely win to set himself up for a second title in three seasons.
Best Cup Series Championship Result: Blaney took home the trophy in 2023 by finishing second behind Ross Chastain in the Cup Series Championship Race, finishing one point ahead of Larson and two ahead of William Byron.
Christopher Bell
Will this be Bell’s year? He was in the Championship 4 in 2022 and 2023 and controversially missed out last season, and he has become an annual fixture in the championship hunt. This season should not be any different.
Best Cup Series Championship Result: Bell finished third in the final standings in 2022 behind Joey Logano and Ross Chastain.
William Byron
Byron has been in the Championship 4 in consecutive seasons, only to wind up third in the final standings despite finishing in the top four in the season finale on both occasions. Will the third time be the charm for the two-time defending Daytona 500 winner?
Best Cup Series Championship Result: In the 2023 finale, Byron started on pole but finished fourth in the race. Last year, he finished third behind the Penske duo of Logano and Blaney.
Chase Elliott
Elliott has been arguably the most consistent driver in the Cup Series this season, finishing 20th or worse only three times in the first 25 races. Unfortunately for his regular season championship hopes, two of those finishes were in the last three races.
Still, this has been a positive season for Elliott, and continuing his season-long consistency could see him through to the Championship 4 for the first time since 2022.
Best Cup Series Championship Finish: Elliott took home the title in 2020 by winning three of the last five playoff races, including the final two at Martinsville and Phoenix. In the process, he became the second youngest NASCAR Cup Series champion, behind only Jeff Gordon, whose first title came in the year Elliott was born.
