Main Event Fighters Hit The Scales Friday

The main event of UFC Vegas 110 will be a barn burner. Steve Garcia & David Onama are both brawlers with very aggressive styles.

Steve Garcia is looking to continue his rise in the rankings and extend his win streak to 7. He has made quite the career resurgence after starting 2-2 in his first 4 fights with the promotion.

One of the losses being a brutal knock out loss to Mahashate, which certainly has not aged well in the division. After the loss some fans were questioning the durability of Garcia due to how brutal the knockout really was.

Since he has ripped off 6 wins in a row, finishing 5 of those by knock out himself. The veteran has put fans concerns to rest by being able to take damage in these bouts & still being able to inflict more damage himself to get the win.

Will Garcia Extend His Streak?

The chin has held up so far even in fighting talented strikers along the way. Garcia has proven he is a dangerous opponent in the lightweight division & belongs in the top 10 of the rankings.

Striking is the forefront of his game, holding big power in his hands always looking to finish fights. His size usually provides an additional advantage, as he is a massive body for the lightweight division.

The size advantage he carries into fights has more then one benefit for Garcia. In the clinch Garcia shines due to his size, often being able to control his opponents against the catch and bully his way into striking exchanges.

As a bettor I still find it hard to trust Garcia’s chin against a top level striker. At 33 years old I believe it will only get worse with time & the veteran has not made the improvements in his head movement to have successful striking defense against a high level striker.

Will Onama Prove He Is Worthy Of A Top 5 Ranking?

UFC Vegas 110 David Onama vs Steve Garcia Main Event Analysis, Best Bet & Prediction

Top Lightweight Contender Onama With An Impressive Victory Over Chikadze

David Onama has quickly become a veteran of the UFC himself in just 4 years. He has grown tremendously as a fighter through 8 fights in just 4 years.

Although his run in the UFC has not been perfect, he has shown vast potential in his skillset. In the 8 fights in the UFC he has gone 6-2 with 3 finish wins in that span.

The versatility in his game has shined in certain areas, collecting 1 submission with 2 additional knockouts. The other 3 wins all came by decision which showed off his cardio and ability to fight hard for 15 minutes.

Some fans could argue the cardio, in a few of these fights Onama was visibly tired entering the 3rd round. I believe the fact he was able to go the whole 15 minutes is more valuable then knowing he was gassed out in the 3rd round.

To me it shows his heart and willingness to dig deep to secure a victory. It also shows his growth as a fighter and in his fight IQ which has also been questionable throughout his career.

Will Onama Prove He Belongs At The Top?

David Onama is mainly a versatile kickboxer that likes to stay at range & use his length to keep his opponents at the end of his strikes. His aggressive come forward style often provides a layer of pressure to his game allowing him to show off his technical striking.

Another addition to his growth as a fighter has been his grappling ability. Progressing in the wrestling and grappling departments with adding the wrinkle in his game to make him a complete MMA fighter.

Even with his aggressive style Onama is very technical and precise with his strikes. The prospect can be quite the sniper in the pocket, taking advantage of limited openings to land big blows.

At this point I feel as David Onama is the more durable fighter in the match up, often willing to take some to give more. In a match up with an aging veteran, I believe he will bully Garcia to get in the pocket and inflict damage.

Steve Garcia is not the same fighter when he is not the aggressor in the match up. I believe Onama will fully take advantage of that and use his versatility to secure the win at UFC Vegas 110.
