Brendan Allen is stepping up on just under a months notice to take on Reinier de Ridder in what is most likely a #1 Contender fight. The headlining bout of UFC Vancouver is sure to be fireworks as both fighters have exciting styles.
A veteran of the UFC at this point, Allen has amassed over 17 fights in his tenure. He joined the promotion at the young age of 23 years old and is considered a home grown talent of the UFC.
In his career Allen has proven he belongs at the top of the division. Allen has beaten top contenders and finished 8 of his 13 wins in the promotion.
Known as a grappling specialist mostly, his submission game is considered top tier in the middleweight division. Within his 8 finishes in the UFC, 7 have come by submission.

I believe in a match up with such a diverse fighter in de Ridder could provide major problems for Allen. Reinier de Ridder will be Allen’s toughest test to date due to his striking & high level grappling game.

Reinier de Ridder has made a splash in the middleweight division since joining the UFC. The winner of 4 straight fights, finishing 3 of the 4 bouts as well.
The streak has been filled with top contenders & proven UFC veterans which has made it that much more impressive. The former 2 division champion of ONE, de Ridder has placed himself firmly at the top of the Middleweight title picture.
Originally scheduled to fight Anthony Hernandez, de Ridder is getting a much easier fight here in Brendan Allen. He will have the size and reach advantage as he typically does in most fights.
The grappling of both fighters should be the highlight of this match up. Both Fighters are high level black belts which should provide some high level grappling exchanges.
In the striking department de Ridder has the clear advantage in this fight. He is the more versatile striker, mixing his attacks to the head and body.
Reinier de Ridder is also a great wrestler in his own right. Often using his size to wear down fighters to find body locks & using trips to get his opponents to the mat.
I believe this fight is a tailor made match up for him as he has much of the advantage and momentum on his side. I expect de Ridder to roll right through Allen and cruise into a title opportunity.
