The UFC is set to kick off in Brazil tonight with a 12 fight card for UFC Rio. After quite the day of weigh in chaos and injury concern, 12 bouts were made official for tonight.
Headliners Charles Oliveira and Mateusz Gamrot were very professional making the lightweight limit with no issue. Others found it more difficult with one fighter missing weight by an egregious 9 lbs.
The bout was scheduled to continue with Saimon Oliveira being fined 50% of his purse. One fight was scratched this week with Usman pulling out of his scheduled bout with Valter Walker.
MMA Fans across the globe are excited to see home town hero’s Charles Oliveira & Deiveson Figueiredo. Fight day is upon us so lets get right into some analysis of the Main Event of UFC Rio!

Main Event: Charles Oliveira vs Mateusz Gamrot Analysis

Hometown Hero Charles Oliveira Takes On Mateusz Gamrot At UFC Rio
An exciting 5 round Main event awaits MMA fans across the globe for UFC Rio. Hometown Hero Charles Oliveira takes on Mateusz Gamrot in a 5 round round Main Event.
Gamrot will be stepping up on just under a months notice to take advantage of the opportunity. In his last fight Gamrot bounced back after a tough loss to dominate Ludovit Klein in a decision win.
He set a heavy grappling pace and was able to out strike Klein in the limited exchanges to secure the win. The win came after a career worse performance against Dan Hooker.
Hooker dominated striking exchanges and really took advantage of a clear hole in Gamrot’s Game en route to a split decision victory. The lack of head movement and striking defense proved deadly for Gamrot.
Will Gamrot Take Advantage Of The Opportunity?
The gamplan here for Gamrot is entirely obvious. Charles can be very aggressive at times marching forward but is more then open to be taken down.
Gamrot is a high level wrestler with impressive grappling stats within his UFC tenure. His ability to chain takedown attempts to be relentless in the grappling department will help tremendously.
In the striking department Gamrot has quietly shown power in his hands. Although there is only 1 official knockdown on his record, he has seriously hurt other opponents.
With a wrestling heavy gameplan I expect Gamrot to utilize his grappling. If he is able to take Charles down easily, I expect a lot of minutes to be burnt on the ground.

Oliveira Looks To Improve His 17-0 Record In Brazil At UFC Rio
Brazillian Superstar Charles Oliveira is looking to bounce back at UFC Rio after a brutal KO loss to Ilia Topuria. The KO marked the 5th time the star had been finished in his career which is worrisome for many bettors.
The 5 rd Main Event will be just a 3 month turn around for Oliveira. Some MMA fans are speculating if Charles is returning to action a little to soon.
The star was originally scheduled to square off with a much different opponent in Rafael Fiziev. Fiziev had to pull out due to injury & now Oliveira finds himself in a heavy grappling match up.
A stark contrast from the original match up which was likely to be a heavy striking affair. It remains to be seen if Oliveira will be able to turn his camp around to prepare for such a match up.
Can Oliveira Bounce Back?
Over his long career within the UFC, Oliveira has amassed an impressive 17-0 record in Brazil. This will be his toughest fight in front of the hometown crowd.
Oliveira is true to his violent nature in every match up. With a very aggressive style he marches forward winging big punches looking for the kill shot.
This style results in his striking defense lacking in some situations. He prefers to cause chaos & draw a brawl out of his opponent over having a more technical fight.
I believe his best chance in this fight will be to do just that and stifle the grappling of Gamrot. Unfortunately, I also believe if he does bring an aggressive pace it will provide many takedown opportunities for Gamrot.
When Charles is taken down he is willing to accept bottom position for a little to long. Gamrot is not the most dangerous fighter on the ground, but it will burn a lot of minutes.
In such a closely lined fight, I believe the Total rounds is a better betting angle over the moneylines. I expect the grappling pace of Gamrot to burn a lot of minutes on the ground.
