UFC Atlanta Main Event: Joaquin Buckley vs Kamaru Usman Analysis, Best Bet, & Prediction

Highly Anticipated Main Event Of UFC Atlanta
Joaquin Buckley is coming into this match up with Kamaru Usman with all the momentum. Winner of 6 straight fights with 4 finishes in the span, he has his sights on Kamaru Usman’s ranking.
Starting his career in the middleweight division, Buckley has made a home in the welterweight division. The tough cut to 170 pounds seemed to be a question at first, but has been successful thus far going 6-1.
Naturally Buckley is smaller then most of his opponents regardless of the division. At middleweight he significantly struggled with the size and power of the guys in that division, picking up 3 knockout losses at middleweight.
Even when his first fight moving to welterweight he suffered a knockout loss. Fans began to wonder if Buckley had any true durability concerns.
It is safe to say Buckley has put those concerns to rest on his 6 fight win streak, beating multiple powerful strikers on his run. He has shown he is able to handle the power of this division and rounded out his skillset.
In the striking department Buckley has heavy hands and uses his athleticism well managing range. Making big improvements in the grappling department he has shown great takedown ability and top control.
If one thing is for sure, it is Buckley is coming into his prime right now as a fighter. Fans must wonder though, will it be enough to beat such a decorated veteran in Kamaru Usman?
Does Usman Have Enough Left In The Tank?

Kamaru Usman Eager To Get Back In The Win Column
Kamaru Usman has not been the same since being head kicked and losing the belt in 2022. The knock out loss ended a very impressive run for Usman where he ripped off 15 wins in a row including 5 straight title defenses.
During his reign Usman was dominant and looking unbeatable. The resume speaks for itself, he should be considered one of the welterweight greats.
In the wrestling aspect of MMA its hard to think of anyone better then Usman. His slick trips or his fantastic entries into a double or single leg takedowns is what he has built his game around.
Somewhere along the line Usman entirely stepped up his striking game. Scoring 3 knockouts in his last 4 wins, it is safe to say he fell in love with his hands a little bit.
Even in the knockout loss that changed his career, Usman was dominating the fight until the head kick landed. Out striking Leon Edwards 189 to 64 while securing 5 takedowns, Usman was certainly on his way to another title defense.
Since he has lost 3 in a row and only shown glimpses of the fighter fans are used to seeing. Now he is coming off a long 2 year lay off as a 2-1 underdog to a young hungry fighter.
At 38 years old, it is hard to tell if Usman’s body is giving up on him finally. I believe if Usman has anything left in the tank, he is 10x more skilled then Buckley in many areas and could make this fight look easy.

Co – Main Event: Rose Namajunas vs Miranda Maverick Analysis, Best Bet & Prediction – Flyweight

Flyweight Co – Main Event Between Former Training Partners Rose Namajunas & Miranda Maverick
The Co – Main Event of UFC Atlanta features an interesting match up of former training partners. The pair have trained together at Genesis Training Academy and Easton Training Center together.
Both now train at different gyms, it is no secret the fighters are very familiar with each other. Fights between former training partners are always fireworks.
Rose Namajunas has been on an up and down run since losing the straw weight title in 2022 to Carla Esparza. That fight could possibly be the worse fight in UFC history with only 68 combined significant strikes landed in the 5 round bout.
In the fight Rose seemed to freeze up under the bright lands and could not get her offense going. Fans started to wonder if she had the motivation and desire to continue fighting.
Since, Rose has gone 2-2 in the UFC and looked like a she still has a lot left in the tank. With flashy kickboxing and great movement around the octagon she had a few impressive performances against top contenders Amanda Ribas and Tracy Cortes.
The ability to stop take downs and work herself out of the clinch has not improved though. Seemingly one of the short comings of her game , she gave up 2 takedowns and 9 mins of control time to Erin Blanchfield in her last fight.
At this point in her career it is most likely best to take her game fight by fight. It is hard to judge just which version of Rose will show up Saturday night.
Will Maverick Pass The Veteran Test?

Flyweight Miranda Maverick Securing a Submission Victory
Miranda Maverick is a young prospect that has shown strides in her game as she grows under the UFC Banner. In her tenure she has gone 8-3 and securing 3 finishes, a rare case in Women’s flyweight.
On a great run and coming into her own, she has won 4 straight fights. Aiming to finally make a run at the UFC title she has a tough veteran in front of her for this match up.
Maverick is primarily a grappler, with a great BJJ game and great takedown offense. On the feet she throws with volume and power for her size.
At times she can be a little gun shy on the feet but it seems that is only the case in match ups against wrestlers. The takedown defense seems to be one of her downfalls, often not being able to get up once she is taken down.
In a match up where she will be the bigger fighter, I expect her to try to get her own wrestling going early and often. It remains to be seen if Rose will have enough left in the tank to fight out of the clinch with the younger stronger fighter in Maverick.

UFC Atlanta Cody Durden vs Jose Ochoa Analysis , Best Bet & Prediction – Flyweight

Action Packed Flyweight Preliminary Bout
In what is certain to be an action packed bout, veteran flyweight Cody Durden welcomes the prospect Jose Ochoa. With Ochoa making just his second appearance in the UFC, hes getting a tough match up here.
Cody Durden has made a name for himself at flyweight with 11 fights in the division. He has an impressive resume fighting some of the bigger names in the division.
Wrestling is in the fore front of his game plans for the most part. Great cardio allows him to shoot relentless takedowns to try to secure control time.
Most would think being wrestle heavy that he isnt entirely dangerous. Durden is a special case there as he has 2 finishes in his 6 wins.
For most of his career he has been a measuring stick for incoming prospects. Always down for a fight, it always provides a great match up when Durden steps into the octagon.
Growing up and currently living in Georgia , Durden will be the hometown favorite tonight. In a match up that favors his wrestling prowess, he might have enough left in the tank to teach the prospect a lesson.
Will Ochoa Get His First UFC Win?

Jose Ochoa With A Big Flex On The Scales
Jose Ochoa is a skilled prospect fighting out of Diego Lima’s Chutebox gym. Being fast tracked to the UFC he skipped the contender series and got a shot against another high level prospect in his debut.
In that fight he showed flashes of his skill set all though ultimately losing a decision. If there was one thing fans could take away from his performance, it was that he belonged on the UFC level.
Typical to most Chutebox fighters, Ochoa has a kill or be killed attitude in his fights. Often looking to brawl it out with his opponents, he has shown how dangerous he can be with all 7 pro wins coming by way of finish.
Ochoa prefers his hands over his submission game even though he is skilled in both. Picking up 6 knockout victories, he has shown he has real power in his hands.
Skilled on the ground as well, he has 1 submission in his career and many attempts. Ochoa is talented at finding a finish in any opportunity given to him.
The one downfall to his game would be his take down defense. Again, also typical to chute box fighters he can accept bottom position chasing submissions or damage.
In a fight against such a high level and relentless wrestler like Durden, that could prove costly to the 24 year old prospect.
UFC Atlanta Cody Durden vs Jose Ochoa Prediction: Cody Durden Wins (+179) at Betonline
UFC Atlanta Cody Durden vs Jose Ochoa Best Bet: Over 2.5 Total Rounds (-135) at Betonline
