Yankees vs. Blue Jays: The Yankees find themselves in a crucial spot this afternoon after dropping Game 1 to the Blue Jays in disappointing fashion. With ace Max Fried on the mound, New York will look to even the series and regain momentum before heading back home. The Blue Jays counter with 22-year-old rookie Trey Yesavage, who has thrown only 14 innings this season but impressed in his last outing against Tampa Bay. This matchup sets up as a fascinating clash between experience and inexperience, with the Yankees’ veteran power bats looking to jump on the young arm early and set the tone for Game 2.

After a tough loss to the Blue Jays in Game 1, the Yankees look to regroup and get right this afternoon in Game 2 of the ALDS. They have ace Max Fried on the bump and will hope he can settle things down while the offense finds its rhythm. On the other side, the Blue Jays turn to 22-year-old rookie Trey Yesavage, who has thrown just 14 innings this season. He is coming off a strong performance against the Rays on September 27, going five innings with five hits allowed and no runs surrendered.
Yesavage vs. RHB
The young right-hander has yet to face a true contender. Two of his three starts came against Tampa Bay, and the other was against Kansas City. This feels like a spot where the Yankees can jump on the inexperienced arm early. Right-handed hitters have crushed Yesavage in limited action. Through 27 faced, he has allowed 84% hard contact, a 10.5% barrel rate, and a 37% line-drive percentage. Those righties have a .362 xBA, .520 xSLG, and .404 xwOBA. Overall, they are hitting .333 with a .407 OBP, .357 SLG, and .782 OPS.
I want to back the Yankees’ two best right-handed bats, so we are parlaying Aaron Judge to get a hit and Giancarlo Stanton to get a hit at +115. Despite the narrative that Judge struggles in the postseason, the Yankees captain is hitting .400 through his first 15 at-bats this October. For anyone who tailed his postseason batting average over, this start has been a blast. Along with that .400 average, Judge carries a .438 OBP, .467 SLG, and .904 OPS.
Stanton, meanwhile, has just one hit so far this postseason, but he feels due for a breakout game. Both sluggers face a pitcher who leans heavily on a below-average fastball (45%) and a slider (28%), per FanGraphs. Judge has crushed both pitches this year, batting over .330 with a 1.258 OPS against fastballs and .292 with a .941 OPS against sliders. Stanton has been strong too, hitting over .280 with a 1.040 OPS versus fastballs and .242 with an .877 OPS against sliders.
This feels like the perfect spot for the big bats to take over and carry this Yankees lineup. Yesavage is talented but raw, and the moment might be a little too big this early in his career. The crowd will be behind him, but the numbers lean toward New York’s power duo finding their rhythm and doing damage.
