White Sox vs. Yankees: On the South Side of Chicago, the Yankees aim to follow up Thursday’s 10-4 win with another strong performance against the White Sox. New York’s bats have steadily come alive, while Chicago, though scrappy, continues to reside near the bottom of the barrel. Oddsmakers have the Bronx Bombers listed as heavy favorites around -225, with the total set at 9. Let’s dive into my best bet for White Sox vs. Yankees.

The conditions at Guaranteed Rate Field set the stage for a cooler evening, with temperatures in the upper 60s and a slight breeze blowing in from left-center.
Yankees left-hander Carlos Rodon will be making his first start against his former club on their home turf. He previously faced the White Sox at Yankee Stadium in May 2024, but this time he gets the chance to do it in front of Chicago’s fans.
White Sox vs. Rodon:
Looking for unique angles – whether it’s a revenge narrative or alternative incentives – in sports betting is always a fascinating dynamic to explore. Can we really bank on Carlos Rodon “trying” that much harder because he’s making his first return against his original organization? Not necessarily. But do we even need that narrative to justify backing the Yankees tonight? Absolutely not.
New York sits four games back of the Blue Jays in the AL East and needs every win it can get. The White Sox, by comparison, are clearly overmatched, and Rodon and the rest of the pinstripes should be eager to keep capitalizing on this roster.
Chicago had a fun spurt to open the second half of the season, but that momentum has faded – and most of it came against right-handed pitching. Over the past month, the Sox rank 23rd in ISO (.144), 22nd in wRC+, and 20th in OPS (.676) when facing lefties.
Rodon doesn’t need an ulterior motive to dominate here. His numbers speak for themselves: a 3.24 ERA, 3.28 expected ERA, and 3.92 xFIP this season. He’s also holding opponents to a minuscule .224 BABIP (batting average of balls in play), driven by limiting quality contact – just a 39.7% hard-hit rate and 8% barrel rate against him. Considering Chicago’s struggles generating power against left-handers, it wouldn’t be surprising to see another quiet offensive night from the Sox.
Yankees are Rolling
Conversely, the Bronx Bombers are living up to the name. Over their past 30 days, they rank first in all of Major League Baseball against right-handed pitching in ISO (.244), fourth in OPS (.818) and fifth in wRC+ (126).
They’re set to face a bit of an unknown commodity in right-hander Yoendrys Gomez. He spent time earlier this season as a reliever with the Yankees and Dodgers – and no, I’m not applying a revenge angle for Gomez this evening – and was just recalled from Triple-A Charlotte on August 12. Since then, he’s 2-0 with a 2.45 ERA over 14.2 innings across three starts.
But don’t get too excited. Gómez still carries a 4.73 ERA, 5.40 xERA, and 5.50 xFIP overall. He’s not generating ground balls and is walking more than five batters per nine innings. You could argue those numbers are inflated by his bullpen work, and that’s fair, but even across his last three starts with the Sox his average xFIP sits at 4.55. In other words, while he’s managed to stay afloat, the underlying metrics point to danger looming – especially against one of the hottest lineups in baseball.
Best Bet
Laying steep run line odds is never ideal, but the Yankees still hold a clear edge, and I think it’s worth the price. These offenses sit on opposite ends of the spectrum in tonight’s splits, and the same goes for the starting pitchers. Don’t overthink it back the Yankees.
