Pitcher Report July 6

Sunday Night Baseball

Sunday nights during the summer time feel different. Yes, the weekend is over but it’s still the summer; everyday feels like the weekend. Let’s jump into these three games and the six pitchers taking the mound. First game on the docket, the Cardinals and Cubs playing game three of their series at Wrigley.

Fedde had a decent start to the year, but over his last three games he’s given up 6, 8 and 10 hits. That’s 24 hits in 13.2 innings, he gave up a total of 15 earned runs and 4 home runs. One of these three games was against this Cubs team. He gave up eight hits, seven runs and three home runs in that game.

Opposite of Fedde we’ll see Matthew Boyd for the Cubs. He’s the Cubs winningest pitcher, he’s got a 2.65 ERA and he’s holding opposing batter to a .236 batting average. His ERA drops to 2.44 at Wrigley and he’s holding batters to .212.

Next, we’ve got the Padres and Rangers facing off at Petco Park. The Padres will be going with their bullpen for today’s game, while the Rangers will send out Jack Leiter.

Leiter’s done a great job of holding batters to just .227 on the season but he’s struggled against right handed bats. Tatis and Machado have performed exceptionally at Petco and could take advantage of the righty.

We finish at Sutter Health Park, my favorite ballpark this year. The Giants and Athletics will face off for game three of their series and conditions couldn’t be better.

MLB Flight Report

In Chicago we’ve got temperatures in the low 70s and 10.3 mph winds blowing in towards the stadium. Conditions aren’t the best in Chicago for home runs, but Fedde’s could still be a great target for some total bases props.

Next, in San Diego we’ve also got temperatures in the low 70s, but winds blowing from west to east. The left to right field direction of the winds should help with some of the left handed bats in these lineups and possibly help produce some offense.

Lastly, in Sacremento we’ve once again got immaculate conditions. Temperature in the low 90s, strong 14.3 mph winds blowing directly out of the stadium and two pitchers that have given up their share of long-balls. That’s the game we’re here to focus on so let’s jump right into it.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Sunday, July 6

Nick Kurtz o1.5 Total Bases (+130 via BetOnline)

Nick Kurtz

Like I said, we’re keeping it in the Bay today. Nick Kurtz has been fantastic for the Athletics this year. The rookie’s played in 51 games this year, he’s got a .246 batting average and he hits absolute nukes. Despite playing in 40 fewer games than most of the the other hitters in this lineup, Kurtz sits third in home runs on the Athletics, 5th in RBI and 1st in slugging percentage.

Kurtz elevates his game at home, hitting .292 with a .652 slugging percentage. Nine of Kurtz 13 home runs have come at Sutter Health Park and 12 have come against right handed pitchers. Birdsong’s allowed lefties to hit .278 and six of the nine home runs he’s allowed this year have been to southpaws.

Bonus: Nick Kurtz Home Run (+360)

Brent Rooker o1.5 Total Bases (+105 via BetOnline)

Brent Rooker

Rooker recorded just a single hit yesterday, but against Logan Webb it’s hard to blame the guy. I’m going right back to Rooker tonight, he’s batting .291 at home this year, with six home runs and it feels like he should have way more. Rooker’s got 18 home runs this year and he’s showing no signs of slowing down.

This will be Birdsong’s first start at Sutter Health Park and with winds blowing at 14 mph, it might be tough night for the righty.

Bonus: Brent Rooker Home Run (+350)
