MLB Pitcher Report | August 11

Andrew Abbott

Meatball Monday

It’s Monday morning and you know what that means, it’s time for meatballs. We’ve got a few pitchers we’re looking to target today so let’s kick it off with Chris Paddack making just his third start for the Detroit Tigers. Paddack’s got a 4.91 ERA this year but he’s given up six home runs over his last five games. His ERA is 5.88 over that time frame and today he’s playing in the hitter friendly Rate Field.

In St. Louis we’ll have Miles Mikolas (5.11 ERA) taking on Chase Dollander (6.92 ERA). Mikolas is allowing 1.7 HR/9 this season and he’s given up six home runs in his last four games. For the Rockies it’ll be Chase Dollander. His 6.92 ERA looks terrible but when you take into account his worst games come at Coors Field, it makes a little more sense. Dollander’s ERA at home baloons to 9.37 but on the road, he’s a completely different pitcher. He’s got a 4.25 ERA away from Coors, holding opposing batters to a .214 batting average and recording a 20.3% strikeout rate.

At Yankee Stadium we’ve got Will Warren (4.53 ERA) and Zebby Matthews (5.17 ERA) facing off. Warren’s allowed left handed hitters to rake this year. He’s allowing lefties to hit .274 this year with 10 of the 12 home runs he’s allowed being to left handed bats. Zebby’s struggled against both, he’s allowing opposing hitters to hit .279, despite only giving up four home runs this year in eight starts.

Sunshine Report – August 11 Weather Conditions

Sutter Health Park is back on the schedule and I couldn’t be happier. The Athletics take on the Rays today in Sacremento, winds blowing out toward left field at 13.2 mph, temperatures in the low 90s and two pitchers who have given up a combined 46 home runs. In Cincinnati we’ve got very slight winds blowing at 6.3 mph toward the outfield and to right; temperatures in the high 80s and a Phillies lineup looking to tee of at Great America Ballpark.

Very slow winds blowing at Rate Field in Chicago, just 2.2 mph towards the outfield with temps in the mid 80s. Smallest outfield in the MLB and the red hot Tigers are in town.

In Anaheim we’ve got the two Los Angeles teams ready to face off. Winds blowing directly toward centre field at 7.2 mph and temperatures in the low 80s. Shohei makes his return to Angel Stadium, this being just his third game back since signing with the Dodgers. Ohtani went 1/8 in the two games he played here last year, hitting a triple in their first matchup.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Monday, August 11

Shohei Ohtani o1.5 Total Bases (-125 via BetOnline)

Ohtani

Ohtani back at Angel Stadium? Of course we’re betting it. It’s super chalk and it’s more juice than I normally like, but Ohtani is so due to hit a home in his former home. He’s coming into this game with a .284 batting average, 41 home runs, 111 runs scored and 77 RBI. He’s once again on a different planet and looks poised to win his fourth MVP in just five years.

Tonight he returns to the team that drafted him, the team he won two MVPs with and the team he never played a postseason game with. Ohtani now returns a World Series Champion with another MVP award under his belt. Look for Ohtani to leave his mark on tonight’s game in a big way.

Bonus: Shohei Ohtani Home Run (+210)

Brent Rooker o1.5 Total Bases (-105 via BetOnline)

Brent Rooker - MLB pitcher vs. batter matchup prop picks

I refuse to stop betting on Brent Rooker. Rooker’s batting .276 this year with 24 home runs. His batting average jumps to .290 at home this year despite hitting just 10 of his home runs in the much smaller Sutter Health Park.

He’s batting .297 this month with just one home run but multiple extra base hits. Tonight he’ll face off against Ryan Pepiot of the Rays. Pepiot’s allowing 1.6 HR/9 this year and allowing right handed hitters to hit 15 of the 24 home runs he’s given up.

Rooker’s batting .375 against Pepiot in his career, he’s recorded three hits with one being a home run. Look for Rooker to get right back on track tonight in Sacremento.

Bonus: Brent Rooker Home Run (+290)
