MLB Pitcher Report | September 1

Charlie Morton

Meatball Monday

Charlier Morton and Meatball Monday, feels like the perfect match. At age 41, the two time World Series winner has been struggling. His 5.25 ERA is the worst ERA he’s posted since 2010, allowing 1.4 HR/9 and giving up 11 of his 20 home runs to right handed bats.

Since coming over to Detroit, Morton’s ERA has dropped to 4.61 across five starts and he’s given up four home runs in that span. Opposite of Morton will be Sean Manaea. The lefty’s played in just nine games this year, recording a 5.01 ERA and giving up six home runs; all to right handed bats.

In Colorado we’ve got two pitchers going head to head, both with ERAs north of six. Kai-Wei Teng will make his fourth start of the season, recording a 8.78 ERA this year and allowing opposing hitters to hit .269 (.303 vs. lefties). For the Rockies we’ll see Chase Dollander on the bump. He’s got a 6.55 ERA this year and that number balloons to 9.88 when playing at Coors Field.

With the Rays back at Steinbrenner Field, we’ll see Shane Baz back on the mound. Baz has a 7.06 ERA at home this year, he’s allowing batters to hit .284 at home and 18 of the 26 home runs he’s given up this year have come…at home.

Is it even Summer Time? – September 1 Weather Conditions

It’s officially September 1st and summer has officially come to an end. I know the first day of fall isn’t for about 20 days, but football kicks off this week and the weather conditions today just don’t look as good as they have all summer. It’s beginning to feel like the fall, but with the fall comes October. Today’s weather conditions stink, winds blowing in toward home plate in almost every ballpark.

Forget about the weather today, the Hunt for October officially enters it’s home stretch today. With so many teams still in the hunt for the playoffs, let’s talk about some potential playoff teams in action today. Just two games separate the Dodgers and the Padres in the NL West, while the Phillies and Brewers each lead their respective divisions by six or more games.

In the AL East, it’s the Blue Jays leading the way. Just three games separate the Blue. Jays and Red Sox in third place; the Yankees firmly between the two just three games back of Toronto.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Monday, September 1

Juan Soto o1.5 Total Bases (+122 via BetOnline)

Juan Soto - New York Mets

Will Soto continue to shine at home?

Juan Soto’s been fantastic this year, despite a bit of a slow start. Soto’s batting .254 on the year with 35 home runs, 102 runs scored and 84 RBI. On the road this season, Soto’s batting average jumps to .258 with his 17 of his home runs coming away from Citi Field. In his career against Morton, Soto’s batting .571 with three home runs and eight total hits.

Morton’s given up nine of his 20 home runs to left handed bats, allowing them to hit .252 on the season with a .432 SLG. He gave up seven hits, five earned runs and a singular home run in his last start. That’s the second time since joining the Tigers that Morton’s given up seven hits and he’s given up 5+ runs in each of those games.

Bonus: Juan Soto Home Run (+450)

Cal Raleigh o1.5 Total Bases (+110 via BetOnline)

Cal Raleigh after another home run - top MLB pitcher vs. batter matchups

Like I said, Baz’s ERA jumps to 7.06 with 18 of the 26 home runs he’s given up coming here at Steinbrenner Field. Winds are blowing in towards home plate at over 12 mph, but it doesn’t matter, this is Big Dumper.

Raleigh’s hitting .224 against right handed pitching this year, despite hitting 30 of his 50 home runs against right handed pitchers. His batting average significantly drops when he bats from the left hand side, but his power remains relatively in tact.

Shane Baz is allowing left handed bats to hit .267 on the year with nine home runs allowed. Raleigh’s having a career year and tonight at Steinbrenner Field, look for it to continue.

Bonus: Cal Raleigh Home Run (+210)
