MLB Pitcher Report | August 13

Juan Soto

Hump Day Hitters

With so many games on today, we’ve got a variety of pitchers to choose from. Let’s kick it off with my favorite Buehler not named Ferris; Walker Buehler. Buehler’s struggled with the Red Sox this year, posting a 5.40 ERA and allowing batters to hit .279 on the year with 19 total home runs given up (1.7 HR/9). His ERA balloons to 6.52 on the road and he’s allowing batters to hit .312. Buehler’s struggled against lefties this year, allowing them to hit .327 with seven of the 19 home runs he’s allowed being to lefties.

In Queens, we’ve got Carlos Carrasco making his first start at Citi Field as a member of the opposing team. Carrasco played 61 games for the Mets, recording just 19 wins and a 5.21 ERA and allowing 1.43 HR/9. This year, Carrasco’s got a 6.18 ERA, he’s allowing batters to hit .302 and he’s giving up 1.9 HR/9. In two games with the Braves, he’s got a 6.94 ERA, allowed 16 hits, 9 earned runs and 2 home runs. He struggles against right handed bats this year, allowing five of the nine home runs to right handed bats and allowing righties to hit .303.

Lastly, we can’t forget about J.T. Ginn. The second year pitcher’s had an up and down season, posting a 4.59 ERA but giving up 12 home runs in just 53.1 innings of work (2.0 HR/9). The fact that he’s played eight of his 15 games at home this year, you can see why his ERA balloons to 5.54 at Sutter Health Park. Eight of the 12 home runs he’s given up have been at home and he’s allowing 2.8 HR/9. Ginn struggles against southpaws, allowing lefties to hit .299 with seven home runs.

Sunshine, on a Cloudy Day – August 12 Weather Conditions

As always, when Sutter Health Park is on the schedule, it’s the first park we’re going to. Winds are blowing out and directly towards left/centre field, with temperatures in low 80s. Seventeen runs have been scored so far through two games in this series and tonight we should see more of the same.

In Cincinnati we’ve got 6.1 mph winds blowing directly out toward centre field, temperatures in the high 80s and two loaded up lineups. In the Bronx we’ve got temperatures in the low 80s, 9.8 mph winds blowing out and toward right field.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Wednesday, August 13

Freddie Freeman o1.5 Total Bases (-110 via BetOnline)

Freddie Freeman

Freddie Freeman’s having a bit of a down year, but he’s still batting .304 on the season, he’s got 14 home runs and 124 combined runs/RBI. Freeman’s missed a little bit of time this year but he seems to finally be finding his groove. In the month of August, Freeman’s batting .366 with three home runs and a combined 16 runs/RBI in just 11 games.

Against right handed pitchers, Freeman’s batting .312 with 10 of his 14 home runs coming against right handed pitching. In his career, Freeman’s batting .400 against Hendricks; recording six total hits, two extra base hits and one home run.

Hendricks has a 4.72 ERA this year, allowing batters to hit .257 and having given up 19 home runs this year. With winds blowing directly towards centre field once again, it’s hard to ignore Mr. Fredward Freeman.

Bonus: Freddie Freeman  Home Run (+400)

Pete Alonso o1.5 Total Bases (+105 via BetOnline)

Pete Alonso

Big Meat Pete. One or the two best nicknames in all of baseball, that and Big Dumper. Pete’s been great for the Mets this year, recording a .267 batting average with 28 home runs and a combined 159 runs/RBI. Pete’s been even better at home, raising his batting average to .288 with 14 home runs (.550 SLG).

In the month of August, Pete’s hitting .350 with six home runs and a combined 24 runs/RBI; all in just 10 games. Pete’s played in 117 of the 119 Mets games this year and he’s showing now signs of slowing down. Tonight he faces off with Carlos Carrasco for the first time.

Carrasco’s allowing right handed bats to hit .303 this year, with five of the nine home runs he’s allowed being to righties. Pete was struggling at Citi field to start the year, but in his last 10 games at home, Pete’s hitting .333 with six home runs and 24 combined run/RBI.

Bonus: Pete Alonso Home Run (+300)
