MLB Pitcher Report

Cloudy With a Chance of Meatballs

We’ve got a slate full of some great pitching matchups and some even bigger hitters. Let’s kick it off with David Festa and Sawyer Gipson-Long. The two will face off in Detroit today, both pitchers allowing opposing batters to hit over .260 and allowing 1.7 HR/9.

The Tigers were the fastest team to 50- wins and no, that is not a typo. The Tigers have been great this year but today they’re at the bottom of their starting pitcher rotation. Gipson-Long’s only played 17.2 innings this year, coming of his longest game of the year. He went 6.1 innings, gave up six hits, three home runs and four total earned runs.

On the other side is David Festa, his 6.39 ERA is among the worst for starters this year and it gets worse on the road. In just two road starts this year, Festa’s gone 7.1 innings, given up 8 hits, 10 total earned runs and 3 home runs. His average exit velocity of 91.5 mph suggests a tendency to give up the long ball.

Summer’s Here – MLB Stadium Report

The weather continues to be fantastic, even though we’ve had back to back days of dead balls. It’s Friday, the weather looks great; all 30 teams in play. Today feels like the perfect day to bring out the ‘good balls’.

Let’s kick it off in sunny old Cleveland. Temperatures are in the mid 80s with 12 mph winds blowing toward the outfield. Luis Ortiz will take the mound for the Guardians and he’ll face a loaded Cardinals lineup. His 92 mph average exit velocity combined with the strong winds could make for a disastrous start tonight.

Next is Yankee Stadium in New York. Conditions may not be optimal today, weather in the high 60s, but this is Yankee Stadium; it’s made for home runs. We’ve got some big bats in the two lineups today and two young pitchers are set to face off.

Now let’s move to the Midwest. The Reds are hosting the Padres at Great America Ballpark today and weathers in the low 90s. Great America Ballpark’s one of the most hitter friendly parks in the MLB and today’s humidity and 8.5 mph winds should play to enhance carry tonight.

Let’s cap it off with the Angels hosting the Nationals at Angel Stadium. With Soriano and Irvin on the mound you can bet you’ll see the ball put in play. Temperature in the mid 70s, winds blowing directly to the outfield and two loaded lineups. This one’s lining up to be a lotta fun on the West Coast.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Friday, June 27

Manny Machado o1.5 Total Bases (-115 via BetOnline)

Manny Machado

Manny Machado’s hitting .311 against righties this year, he’s got a .600 batting average against Nick Martinez and he’s been even better on the road. When away from Petco Park, Machado’s got a .321 batting average with a .535 SLG. He’s hit eight of his 13 home runs on the road and he’s got a batting average of .293 when at Great America Ballpark.

Martinez has a 4.52 ERA and has allowed right handed bats to hit eight home runs. He’s allowed 1.6 HR/9 at home this season and he’s also allowed righties ti .277 off of him this season. Machado may not jump off the page, but he’s been fantastic this year with no signs of slowing down.

Bonus: Manny Machado Home Run (+640)

Radael Devers o1.5 Total Bases (-120 via BetOnline)

Rafael Devers

This is a gut call. Devers is taking his first road trip with his new team and finally getting out of Oracle Park. Oracle Park, however beautiful, stinks for home runs. Rate Field is the exact opposite, we’ve got the windy Chicago weather combined with the smallest outfield in the entire league.

Devers numbers don’t jump off the page but his batting average has dropped to .257 since coming over to the Giants, he’s hit two home runs and has recorded just four total extra-base hits. Tonight the Whitesox will tag newly acquired Aaron Civale for his third start with the Whitesox.

Since coming to Chicago, Civale’s gone 12 innings, given up 15 hits, 7 earned runs and 2 home runs. Tonight will be the first time he starts at Rate Field as a member of the Whitesox and he’s getting a newly reloaded Giants lineup to matchup with. Look for Devers to take advantage today.

Bonus: Rafael Devers Home Run (+220)
