MLB Pitcher Report | August 5

Yu Darvish

Tuesdays are for Dingers

We’ve got a huge slate of games today so let’s jump right in and talk about some pitchers we’d love to fade today. Let’s kick it off with Yu Darvish of the San Diego Padres. Darvish has a 6.46 ERA this year, allowing opposing batters to hit .342 on the road and he’s giving up 2.2 HR/9 away from Petco Park. He’s struggled even more against righties, allowing them to hit .295 with a .432 SLG.

In the nation’s capital, we’ve got Luis Severino taking the mound for the Athletics in their game against the Nationals. Severino’s allowing lefties to hit .273 with six of the 13 home runs he’s surrendered being to left handed bats.

In Detroit we’ve got Zebby Matthews on the mound for the Twins. He’s posted a 5.67 ERA this year, 6.63 away from home; he’s allowing oppsing batters to hit .284 and has allowed four home runs in just 33.1 innings of work.

Lastly, let’s finish off with Anthony Molina. He’s played just 8.2 innings of baseball across five different games, he’s got a 7.27 ERA and he’s allowing 3.3 HR/9. Molina’s allowing allowing the opposition to hit .361 and .381 against left handed bats.

Sunshine Report – August 5 Weather Conditions

Let’s kick it off at Citizens Bank Park, winds are blowing directly out and toward left field at 9.2 mph, temperatures are in the high 70s and Kyle Schwarber remains in the lineup. At Citi Field we’ve got 9.4 mph winds blowing out and toward left field, temperatures in the high 70s and two loaded lineups.

Moving to Atlanta, temperatures are touch colder; sitting in the mid to high 60s, winds blowing at 6.2 mph directly out and towards right field. We’ve once again got winds blowing directly out toward center field at Angel Stadium, with temperatures in the low 80s.

Finishing off elsewhere in California, the Dodgers and Cardinals look to tee off in great conditions. Winds blowing at 6.9 mph directly toward center field, temperatures in the low 80s and Ohtani looking to tie Schwarber for the home run lead in the National League.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Tuesday, August 5

Kyle Schwarber o1.5 Total Bases (-105 via BetOnline)

Kyle Schwarber

If you’re surprised I’m betting Kyle Schwarber again, you must be new around here. The southpaw is batting .258 on the year with 39 home runs, 79 runs scored and 94 RBI. Schwarber’s 8th in on base percentage this year (min. 80 GP) and sits atop the home run leader board for the National League.

Schwarber hasn’t missed a single game this year, batting .249 against right handed pitching with 24 of his 39 home runs coming against righties (.558 SLG). He’s batting .265 at home this year, with 21 of his 39 home runs coming at Citizens Bank Park (.627 SLG).

Schwarber has the chance to eclipse 50 home runs for the first time in his career and it looks like he’s going to get there.

Bonus: Kyle Schwarber Home Run (+190)

Matt Olson o1.5 Total Bases (+155 via BetOnline)

Matt Olson

Today’s theme is big hitting southpaws. Olson’s got 18 home runs this year, but 10 of come at home, he’s batting .280 in Atlanta with 14 of his home runs coming against right handed pitchers. For the Brewers it’ll be Freddy Peralta.

The righty has a 4.19 ERA on the road this year, allowing 1.6 HR/9 on the road and allowing lefties to hit .223 on the year. Olson’s batting .333 against Pertalta in his career, he’s got one home run, one double and one single.

With winds blowing at 6.1 mph out and toward right field, look for Olson’s power and left handed swing to get us an extra base hit tonight.

Bonus: Matt Olson Home Run (+475)
