Dinger Tuesday

It’s Dinger Tuesday and we’ve got a huge slate of MLB games to celebrate. The night begins in Baltimore, we’ve got Dean Kremer on the mound for the Orioles and George Kirby for the visiting Mariners. Kirby’s been great this year, he’s got a 7-5 record with a 4.04 ERA. He’s giving up just 1.1 HR/9 and he’s holding opposing hitters to a .234 batting average.

In Cincinnati we’ve got the visiting Phillies looking to take advantage of Brady Singer and this hitter friendly ballpark. Singer’s got a 4.45 ERA this year but he’s allowing left handed bats to hit .262 with a .457 SLG. Singer’s allowed 13 home runs this year, 10 of which have come against left handed bats.

North of the border, we’ve got Ben Brown making his first career start at the Rogers Centre. Browns got a 6.29 ERA on the road this year, allowing 1.9 HR/9 and has really struggled with left handed bats. He’s allowing lefties to hit .291 on the year with 12 of the 16 home runs he’s allowed being to southpaws.

Lastly, let’s finish off by talking about Nasty Nestor Cortes. The former Yankee’s had his share of struggles this year, giving up six home runs across just three starts this year. Five of those home runs came in his first start of the season, back when he was still a Brewer. Cortes has started just one game for the Padres, going 4.2 innings, giving up just three hits, two earned runs and a singular home run.

Windy, not Windhorst – August 12 Weather Conditions

Last night we saw 11 runs scored at Sutter Health Park, five home runs were hit and both teams gave up a combined 21 hits. Today, with winds blowing at 13.6 mph directly toward the outfield, we’ve got to go right back. Two loaded up lineups with two starting pitchers that have combined to give up 31 total home runs this year. Feels good.

Once again at Angel Stadium, we’ve got 6.7 mph winds blowing out toward centre field and temps in the mid 70s. In the Bay we’ve got 11.4 mph winds blowing directly out of Oracle Park. Temperatures are a little cooler, sitting in the high 50s to low 60s.

New York’s other team will face off with the Atlanta Braves tonight, 11.4 mph winds blowing directly out and toward left field here at Citi Field. Lastly, let’s take a trip to the south side of Chicago. The White Sox will host the Tigers for game two of their series, winds blowing directly to left field at 7.6 mph. Let’s not forget, this is the MLB’s smallest outfield. The red hot Tigers are in the Windy City and showing no signs of slowing down.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Tuesday, August 12

Shohei Ohtani o1.5 Total Bases (-130 via BetOnline)

Ohtani

Ohtani finally got the home run back in Angel Stadium, with his new team. He’s hit a home run in four of his last five games, cleared his bases line in eight of his last 10 and he’s hitting .457 in the month of August. Ohtani hit just .204 in the month of July, still recording nine home runs and 37 combined runs/RBI.

Even when Ohtani’s struggling, he’s one of the most gifted offensive players in the game. He’s hitting .284 on the season with 42 home runs, 112 runs scored and 78 RBI. Ohtani’s on track to win his fourth Most Valuable Player Award and it would be his fourth in just five years.

Bonus: Shohei Ohtani Home Run (+200)

Spencer Torkelson o1.5 Total Bases (+115 via BetOnline)

Torkelson

Tork’s batting .289 this month with three home runs through 10 games so far. His SLG has jumped to .526 this month and he’s been one of the Tigers’ best hitters this year. Tork’s setting career highs in batting average and looks to be on track to best his previous career high of 31 home runs.

Torkleson’s also been great on the road this year, his batting average jumps from .239 to .249 on the road with 13 of his 26 home runs coming away from Comerica Park (.502 SLG). He’s hitting .281 since the All-Star Break with five home runs.

The Whitesox will be going with Mike Vasil to start tonight’s game, starting just his fourth game of the year. Vasil usually plays as an opener or in relief, but as a starter this year he’s got a 6.55 ERA, giving up 14 hits and three home runs in just 11 innings of work.

Vasil has gone 4+ innings just once this year and I don’t expect tonight to be much longer. We’ll see this White Sox bullpen before you know it and Torkelson’s just been too good to ignore in a spot like this.

Bonus: Spencer Torkelson Home Run (+350)
