MLB Pitcher Report | July 9

Antonio Senzatela

Hump Day Hitters

With Antonio Senzatela back on the mound for the Rockies, let’s kick it off at Fenway Park. Senzatela’s 6.75 ERA combined with his .351 allowed batting average has made for an easy target this year in terms of props. He’s giving up 1.5 HR/9 and he’s been slightly worse outside of Coors, surprisingly.

Senzatela’s allowing opposing teams to hit .380 on the road this year and he’s given up seven home runs in just 37 innings of work. Opposite of Senzatela will be Lucas Giolito. After a terrible start to the season, Giolito’s completely turned it around. In his last five games, Giolito’s got a 0.83 ERA, he’s given up just three earned runs and recorded four wins.

Down in Southern California, we’ve got Kumar Rocker and Kyle Hendricks taking the mound at Angel Stadium. Both pitchers have struggled this year, but Rocker’s 9.41 ERA on the road really stands out. He’s allowing opposing batters to hit .362 on the road this year, giving up five of six home runs this year on the road.

Rocker’s played the Angels just once in his career, striking out eight batters and giving up just three runs. Tonight will be his first start at Angel Stadium.

Let’s finish off in New York, where the Yankees will host the Mariners for game two of this series. The Yankees will have called up Cam Schlittler to make his major league debut tonight. The young righty was called up after it was revealed Clark Schmidt would need season-ending Tommy John surgery.

For the Mariners, it’ll be their rookie, Logan Evans. The kid’s got a 2.96 ERA this year and he’s given up seven home runs in just 45.2 innings. Today will be his first ever start at Yankee Stadium.

Summertime Fine – July 9 Weather Conditions

Summertime’s better when baseballs are flying. With today’s weather conditions, we should hopefully see exactly that. Staying in the Bronx, we’ve got 6.5 mph winds blowing from right to left field, temperatures in the mid 80s, and one of the most hitter-friendly parks in MLB. With two loaded lineups and two kids on the mound, this game could be fun.

Moving to the other New York team, the Mets are in Baltimore and these two squads combined for 13 runs last night. Winds are once again blowing directly towards the outfield and temperatures are in the low 80s.

That California sun is shining today. Temperature in the low 80s, 7.4 mph winds blowing out, and mild levels of humidity at Angel Park. In Sacramento it’s over 100 degrees, with strong 11.6 mph winds blowing directly towards center field.

Lastly, Petco Park’s even got slight winds blowing out towards right field. It’s not known for home runs, but with these two lineups, I wouldn’t be surprised if the ball flew just a little bit higher.

Our Best MLB Pitcher vs. Batter Bets on the Diamond for Wednesday, July 9

Juan Soto o1.5 Total Bases (-115 via BetOnline)

Juan Soto blasts one

Fresh off the All-Star snub, Soto pulled up to Baltimore; recorded three hits, one run, and one RBI. He also happened to bring home the game-winning run in the top of the 10th inning.

Soto’s been great this year, he’s got a .269 batting average, 21 home runs, 66 runs scored, and 52 RBI. His .399 OBP is second to only Aaron Judge and Soto leads the league in walks. Soto ranks fourth in runs scored this season and he’s a big reason why the Mets sit tied atop the NL East.

Tomoyuki Sugano for the Orioles has a 4.55 ERA and he’s allowing 2.3 HR/9 at Camden Yards. He’s allowing lefties to hit .268 with 12 of the 19 home runs he’s allowed being given up to left-handed bats. With winds blowing out and towards right field, Soto’s left handed swing should see a significant advantage.

He’s got elite 93.1 mph exit velocity and the short fence in right field should only help matters.

Bonus: Juan Soto Home Run (+230)

Matt Olson o1.5 Total Bases (-115 via BetOnline)

Matt Olson

Matt Olson is up against his old team, in a new hitter-friendly park. He’s going to launch one, it’s only a matter of when. Mitch Spence is a young righty that’s struggled at Sutter Health Park, posting a 5.65 ERA at home and allowing batters to hit .297.

Spence has given up 10 home runs this year, seven have come against left-handed bats. He’s allowing lefties to hit .312 this year and Olson’s 19.1-degree launch angle pairs perfectly with Spence’s ground ball tendencies.

Look for Olson to leave a mark on tonight’s game.

Bonus: Matt Olson Home Run (+285)
