Seattle Mariners vs. Arizona Diamondbacks: Late Afternoon MLB Bets

Bryan Woo starts in the desert for the Mariners against the Diamondbacks
The Diamondbacks have now lit up the Mariners two nights in a row, and I don’t expect much to change tonight. Bryan Woo takes the mound for Seattle, and although he is top-10 in WHIP, he sees an increase in ERA on the road and has gotten blown up recently.

I want to back the Diamondbacks in this game, but do worry about their lefty on the mound. Seattle doesn’t necessarily bat better against lefties, but they certainly aren’t any worse. Plus, they see a 20-point increase in their team batting average. Instead, I’ll take the Snakes’ pitching out of the equation and just back the bats.

Ketel Marte and the Diamondbacks are going for the sweep tonight
Mariners vs. Diamondbacks Prediction: Diamondbacks Win, Over 9.5
Best Bets: Diamondbacks TT Over 4.5 (+113) BetOnline
I was looking at backing a couple of Snakes’ hitters, but decided to just go with backing the entire offense. If you’re a player prop guy, you can find Ketel Marte and Josh Naylor to both get a hit around (-125), or you can go the TT route with me.
Arizona has several lefties who absolutely smash right-handed pitching. Bryan Woo allows a .218 batting average, but that leaps up to .231 against left-handed hitters. Now let’s look at the left-handed batters on Arizona and how their average improves.
Diamondbacks Lefty Hitters Batting Average (Overall/vs RHP)
- Corbin Carroll: .260 > .272
- Josh Naylor: .297 > .326
- Ketel Marte: .292 > .330
- Pavin Smith: .276 > .289
- Alek Thomas: .273 > .285
Have I made my point yet? I think all of these guys are great options for their hitting props tonight, but I’ll back the whole team to score some runs. Woo allows 3.45 runs per nine on the road this season and has given up three or more runs in 5/12 starts this season, including 10 total runs in his last four outings.
Arizona ranks 4th in the MLB scoring 5.09 runs per game, with that number ballooning up to 5.26 at Chase Field. They’ve scored five or more in six of their last eight at home, and since May, they rank 5th in the league in team batting average, hitting over .263 as a team. I think they are capable of putting some runs on the board for us tonight.
