I will be backing the hosts to get the job done in this game. They are trending in the right direction, having won three of their last four and they are 12-6 over the last few weeks of June. The Phillies are 27-14 at home this season, while the Padres are a measly 20-25 away.
San Diego has lost two straight and three of their last four, plus they’ve lost three straight series away from home. Losing tonight solidifies that happens for a fourth consecutive time, and I’m pretty confident that’s what we will see.

Give me the hosts by two tonight. The Padres seriously struggle to hit left-handed pitchers. Their team batting average drops two points to .245 on the road, but it goes all the way down to .234 against lefties. Sanchez is No. 17 in MLB in ERA, and top-35 in WHIP as well.
He posted a 1.85 ERA in June (34 IP in five starts), including a 0.91 WHIP. Sanchez is throwing fire at the moment. He’s hasn’t allowed more than two earned runs in an outing since May 24, and he’s allowed two or fewer runs in 13/16 starts this season. I don’t think the San Diego hitters will get ahold of him.
As for the Philly bats, their team average balloons up nearly 20 points from .254 to .273 when playing at the Bank, hitting righties and lefties both at great numbers. Pivetta’s 3.36 ERA jumps to 4.50 on the road, and his 1.03 WHIP increases to 1.26. He is coming off pitching seven shutout innings against the Nationals, but prior to that he allowed four runs to the Royals, five to the Dodgers and Giants, and two to the Diamondbacks and Pirates.
The Rockies also took him for six runs in early May. Tonight, I see the Phillies’ hitters having some batting practice at the plate as Sanchez deals a quality start.
