Royals @ White Sox Analysis & Breakdown
The Royals have won 9 of their 10 matchups with the White Sox so far this season.
We’ve got a divisional matchup taking place in the Midwest as Bobby Witt Jr. and the Royals are visiting Chicago to take on the White Sox. The Royals are coming off back to back losses to the Cubs, both at home.
Today they look to bounce back against a bad White Sox team. The Sox rank last in their division and last overall in the entire league. They’ve won just 28 games so far this year, and currently are the only team to not reach 30 wins yet.
They’ve lost 75% of their games so far this year and they currently rank last in runs scored, batting average, OBP, and OPS. The offense has been non-existent and it’s only gotten worse in July.

Bobby Witt Jr. is having himself an MVP caliber season, and has the Royals positioned for a birth in the post-season.
The Royals are currently in a Wild Card spot and just 4.5 games back of the Yankees for that top Wild Card spot. They’re also just 6.5 games back of the divisional lead and could very well put some pressure on the Guardians.
Huge reason the Royals have looked so good this year is this man, Bobby Witt Jr. He’s having an MVP-esque season and would probably be a lock to win it if Aaron Judge wasn’t on another planet.
Witt’s hitting 0.341 this season with 18 home runs and 71 RBI. Bobby’s played in all 106 games for the Royals and been even better in July. He’s batting 0.468 with 17 RBI this month and a 0.810 SLG this month alone.
Witt has been phenomenal against the AL Central, batting 0.405 with a 0.681 SLG and 26 RBI. He’s got a 0.586 SLG against right handed pitchers and he’s got great history against Flexen.
Bobby’s batting 0.625 against Flexen on 8 at-bats with 4 singles and a 1 home run.
Flexen’s got a 5.25 ERA this season and he’s given up 18 home runs. He’s also played the Royals twice this year, giving up 10 combined hits and 10 earned runs.

The White Sox strike out a whole lot and their offense could best be described as anemic. They rank last in all major offensive categories have struggled even more against right handed pitchers this year.
They currently rank 26th in strikeouts allowed to right handed pitchers and are striking out at a 26.9% rate against them. Chicago ranks last in batting average against righties and OBP. They’re not getting on base and they’re not hitting the ball well.
Marsh has struggled this season, and especially this month; recording a 7.80 ERA in July across 3 starts. He’s played 15 innings this month and somehow still recorded 16 strikeouts.
His strikeout rate jumps from 7.86 Ks/9 at home to 9.00 Ks/9 when on the road. Despite posting a worse ERA on the road, he strikes out more batters.
Marsh has also recorded 7+ strikeouts in 4 of his L6 road starts; recording 8 strikeouts in his last road start. Last point I’ll make, the White Sox also have 8 hitters above the average MLB strikeout percentage. Basically, they strike out a ton.
