The No. 10 prospect in all of baseball was hitting .322 with a .389 OBP and .593 SLG, along with 15 home runs and 56 RBI in just 50 games between Double-A and Triple-A. It still baffles me that he began the season in Double-A.
In less than a month at Triple-A, he hit .326 with six home runs and 13 RBI—in only 11 games. The kid is the real deal. The Royals desperately need power, currently sitting dead last in Major League Baseball in home runs—nine behind the Pirates, who rank second to last.
Can Caglianone make a splash in his debut tonight? With the way he has been seeing and hitting the ball, anything is possible.
Where do I lean on his props tonight? That is a tough call. He holds an edge as a new face, with the scouting report limited to minor league data. He could come out as hot as the sun or resemble how Jackson Holliday opened last season—a bit sluggish.
Personally, I will sit back and enjoy this one as a fan of the game. However, if I were forced to bet on something, it would be his home run. It is the most exciting prop on the board, and he is due for some long balls. The kid is 6’5″, 250 pounds—he will be leaving the yard plenty.
