Royals @ Astros Analysis & Breakdown
Both the Royals and Astros have hopes of not only making the post-season but competing at a high level once they get there. The Astros started the season abysmally, going 26-30 to start the season. It looked like the Mariners would be the division winners till the Astros turned it around.
Houston’s gone 29-21 over their L50 games, and look poised for another division title. On the other side of the ballpark today will be the Kansas City Royals. The Royals have been great at home but less than stellar on the road.
Their batting splits, runs scored, and just general offense tends to sputter more than most when on the road, even to the point where some people have accused the Royals of possibly cheating this year.
Now this isn’t something I buy into but let’s talk about these splits. The Royals are batting 0.270 at home this season with a 0.445 SLG and have scored 357 runs ate home (5.17 runs per game). On the road they’re batting 0.246 with a 0.405 SLG, having scored just 297 runs (4.57 runs per game).
Again, I don’t think they’re cheating, but I wouldn’t be surprised if they struggled tonight on the road.

With all the chatter surrounding the Royals this season, especially in regards to their home and away splits; one constant has been the play of Bobby Witt. Sure his numbers jump up significantly at home, but he’s been FANTASTIC on the road too.
He’s batting 0.301 with a 0.530 SLG and 15 home runs on the road. Witt’s got 44 RBIs on the road this season and he’s been great against the Astros. He’s recorded a 0.385 batting average across 3 games and recorded 2 home runs.
Witt’s been smashing righties all year, recording a 0.344 batting average with 24 of his 28 home runs coming against righties. There’s no denying how good Witt’s been this year, let’s just hope he can keep it rolling on the road today.

With so many high powered bats on either side of this 1, I’m loving the over. The Royals are 3-1 in their L4 games and have scored 4 or more runs in all 4 games; all games coming on the road. They currently sit 2 games back of the Guardians for the division and if they hope to close the gap they’ll need to score some runs.
The Astros on the flip side have finally found their offense. They hold the lead in AL West and if they hope to hang on they’ll need to find a way to beat the Royals tonight.
KC has scored 152 runs over the L30 days, sitting 3rd in the MLB during that time. Both starting pitchers are giving up 8 or. more hits per 9 and just about 1 home run per 9 innings.
