Who loves lefties more than Guardians star Jose Ramirez? Nobody, that is who.
The Cleveland All-Star slugger enters today with the highest matchup rating in this game. When holding an elite rating on Batters-Box, Ramirez shows strong trends. In 21 elite ratings at home, he records a hit 71% of the time, goes over this prop 52%, and clears 1.5 hits, runs, RBI in 57% of those games. Against left-handed pitching this season, the switch-hitting third baseman is batting .342 with a .530 SLG and .940 OPS.
Today, he draws Rockies left-hander Kyle Freeland, who, like most Colorado arms, performs better on the road than at home. That said, Freeland still holds a 4.68 ERA and a .273 OBA on the road. Overall, Right-handed hitters have posted a .315 average against him this season, with a sub-.500 SLG and an .852 OPS.
Freeland holds a poor overall rating today and has poorly rated matchup metrics across wOBA, ISO, hard contact rate, and strikeout percentage. He is giving up over 38% hard contact across his last 370 innings. Out of the six pitches in his arsenal, only one rates above league average, according to FanGraphs. That pitch is his knuckle curve, which he throws just 24% of the time. Against knuckle curves in his career, Ramirez owns a .291 average, .824 OPS, and 138 wRC+. Versus the rest of Freeland’s pitch mix, Ramirez ranks as one of the top Guardians hitters against each respective offering.
After a two-single evening last night, Ramirez should be geared up for an explosive showing. The Guardians stud has not recorded an extra-base hit since Saturday and has not left the yard in over a week.
