Rays vs Red Sox Game Preview
Thursday’s victory was business as usual for Tampa Bay fans.
The Rays have had the Red Sox’s number throughout the 2023 campaign, now winning 10 of the 12 matchups between the AL East rivals. Tampa Bay is also 4-1 at Fenway Park this season, having won the last four meetings in Boston 23-12 on aggregate.
Playing at home is supposed to provide a boost, but that hasn’t been the case for the Red Sox for quite some time. They’ve emerged as losers in 12 of their last 15 home games, scoring three or fewer runs seven times during that span.
Following yesterday’s defeat, Boston is now 12-13 against AL East clubs at home while Tampa Bay is 12-10 in divisional away games. Furthermore, the Rays head into tonight’s contest riding a five-game winning streak on the road.
The Rays are turning to right-handed starter Tyler Glasnow on the mound tonight. The 30-year-old veteran hasn’t been his usual self lately going 1-2 with a putrid 8.22 ERA in his last three starts, allowing four earned runs in each outing.
At the same time, Glasnow hasn’t lost to the Red Sox since 2018 — a nine-game span. Since that defeat, he’s amassed a 3-0 record against Boston, pitching to a 3.06 ERA while striking out 72 batters over just 47 innings.
The good news for the Rays is that Red Sox RHP Brayan Bello is also looking vulnerable at the moment. He was absolutely destroyed when he faced the Texas Rangers last Wednesday, giving up two HRs and eight earned runs on as many hits over just three innings in a 15-5 loss for Boston.
Bello has also experienced mixed results against the Rays this season. While he scored the win when he last faced Tampa Bay on Sept. 4, he was credited with the loss when the Red Sox fell 4-1 to the Rays on June 5.
Rays vs Red Sox Prediction (Sept. 27)
Tampa Bay has had Boston’s number all season long and there isn’t a reason to believe tonight’s result will be any different. The Rays know how to find success at Fenway Park and Glasnow’s success against the Red Sox only improves the visitor’s odds of victory.

Averaging 8.4 strikeouts in his last eight clashes with Boston, I’d be surprised if Glasnow doesn’t rack up the Ks again.
