Phillies Giants picks

The Philadelphia Phillies find themselves out west taking on the San Francisco Giants in their second and final series of the season. Back in April the teams split four games in Philly, alternating wins each time with the host closing it out.

Philadelphia Phillies vs. San Francisco Giants: MLB Picks & Predictions

Heliot Ramos faces the Phillies tonight at home - Phillies Giants Picks

Heliot Ramos and the Giants host the Phillies tonight

Like I said, both teams split, but the Giants wins were more dominating. They beat the Phillies 10-4 and 11-4, while the Phillies won 6-4 in both of their games. Can anyone find the odds for either team to score exactly four runs?

Currently, the Phillies are leading the NL East by just 1.5 games over the New York Mets, but that division seems like a two-horse race, with Miami and Atlanta more than 12 games behind.

As for the Giants, they are tied with the San Diego Padres sitting seven games behind the Los Angeles Dodgers in the NL West. They’ve won four of their last five (after losing four straight), and close things out at home against the Phillies and the first place Dodgers before the All-Star Break. Can they come up with a massive win tonight to kick things off after 10 games on the road?

The one problem with the Giants: they can’t hit lefties. Even though their team batting average increases to .240 at home, they only hit .213 against left-handed pitchers. And Cristopher Sanchez has been dealing.

He ranks No. 14 in ERA this season, with it dropping below 2.50 on the road this year. The man is also top 25 in WHIP with a 1.13. Sanchez already took down the Giants once this year, throwing seven innings and allowing just two earned runs on four hits and a walk. He struck out a season high 12 batters, reaching double-digit Ks only one other time this year.

That was a long time ago. But Sanchez hasn’t changed.

Best Bet: Phillies ML (-128) BetOnline

BetOnline is hanging the best number on the market by at least seven cents. I’ll back the road favorite with their stud on the mound.

Recently, Sanchez has allowed just two or fewer earned runs in seven straight starts and in 14/17 this season. It’s been almost a month since his last loss, but that was in a game where he received just one run of support from the offense (Sanchez pitched seven innings and struck out nine, allowing two runs).

Tonight I think the Phillies will give him the run support he needs. Landen Roupp picked up the win against the Phillies earlier this year, but not without allowing four runs on six hits in just five innings. Roupp struck out eight, he pitches significantly better at home (1.85 ERA, 1.23 WHIP), but he’s recently lost against the Dodgers, Tigers, and Cubs… all division leaders.

Don’t take that to mean anything too serious, but against another division leader tonight, give me the Phillies to light him up. Roupp throws a below average sinker 40% of the time, and a barely average curveball another 35% of the time. The Phillies are capable of figuring him out and putting some runs on the board for their pitcher.
