Yesterday Dylan Cease did something that’s only ever been done once before in San Diego Padres history, and that’s throw a no-hitter.
Cease went all 9 innings, recorded 9 strikeouts, and he needed just 20 combined pitches in the last two innings to close it out; just an all-around masterclass by the righty.
Now let’s talk about the home team. The Orioles are coming off a 1-run win that went to extras, against the Marlins in Miami. The Orioles led 6-0 after 4 innings but failed to score another run until the top of the 10th inning.
The top 4 hitters in the O’s lineup combined for just 3 hits on 20 combined plate appearances; 2 of those being from Santander alone.
The Orioles had lost 3 straight games before last night, and look to stay in the win column today at Camden Yards.

Gunnar Henderson has cost a lot of people money this week.

Today he’s matched up with Adam Mazur of the Padres. Mazur’s got just 7 career starts under his belt so far, and he’s managed a 7.84 ERA; pitching past the 5th inning just once.
He’s given up 5 home runs across these 7 starts and he’s been getting crushed by lefties. Mazur’s allowed left handed bats to hit 0.328 with a 0.567 SLG.

Anthony Santander not only hits home runs, but he’s just as likely to steal em’ from his opponent.
Like I stated above, the top 4 Oriole’s bats yesterday sucked; unless you’re name is Anthony Santander. He finished with 2 hits, a home run and his team got a much needed win.
Santander has been red hot this month, batting 0.306 with 6 home runs and 12 RBI. Since the All-Star break, he’s pumped those numbers up to 0.346 with 4 home runs and 9 RBI (6 games).
Adam Mazur has been bad in his rookie season, and today’s he’s facing off with one of the toughest lineups in baseball.
Santander is batting 0.253 against righties this year with a 0.549 SLG; a big jump from the 0.221 he hits against lefties.
He’s also managed to “quietly” hit 28 home runs, record 91 runs, and 67 RBI. Everyone talks about Gunnar, but Santander’s been just as good.
Santander, Gunnar and the Orioles return home to Camden Yards today for the first time since before the break, look for them to make some noise.
