Sunday Night Baseball has come around once again. It’s the end of the weekend, the beginning of a new week, and actually the first day of June. The New York Yankees will certainly hope to turn things around this month, after losing the first two of this series to the Los Angeles Dodgers. And to be honest, they weren’t very close.
This is the final regular season meeting between these teams. This three game weekend series is their only matchup unless both end up in the World Series at the end of the year. The Dodgers have won the first two meetings, scoring plenty on New York’s pitching. Los Angeles won 8-5 on Friday Night after falling behind 5-2 after just five innings. Last night, the Dodgers put up 18 runs compared to the Yankees’ two, successfully winning the series.
Can they make the sweep happen tonight? Or do the Yankees find a way to pull out one win this series?

The Yankees hit better on the road, but also against lefties. Tonight they face Yamamoto who is having an incredible season. The Dodgers’ stud ranks Top 10 in both ERA and WHIP, ranking 6th and 4th respectively. I can’t decide if his sub 2.00 ERA or sub 1.00 WHIP is more impressive, either way, he is one of four pitchers to rank Top 10 in both categories (Eovaldi, Skenes and Skubal), with just Yamamoto and Eovaldi posting sub 2.00 and sub 1.00.
The point is, he’s having a great season. I think that continues tonight against a Yankee team that has been on the road for far too long. The Yankees opened this nine game road trip with a loss to the Colorado Rockies at Coors. Since then, they won two in Denver, swept the Angels in Los Angeles, but have now lost two straight against the other LA Team.
The Yankees are looking forward to being back in their own timezone, in their own beds, and might already be thinking about their off day tomorrow.

Back the Dodgers bats to light up the stadium tonight. They’ve scored 26 runs in their last two against this New York team, and lead the MLB in runs scored this season (5.86 per game). Yamamoto has only gotten “blown up” once this year, on the road against the Diamondbacks, who have a solid offense.
At home, in his groove, I think he shoves tonight on the mound. New York is hitting just .244 during the past two weeks ranking in the bottom third of the MLB. Again, I think they are ready for this road trip to be over.
As for their starter, Ryan Yarbrough has had some good outings, but to be honest, he hasn’t faced the toughest teams. He’s only started his last four games, facing the Rays, A’s, Rangers and Angels. The A’s and Rays can hold their own (Top half of the MLB in batting average), but the two AL West foes are 27th and 28th in batting average. Yarbrough is in for a wake up call tonight against the Dodgers who hit .270 as a team, .273 against righties and .293 at home, leading the league in every split.
The Dodgers are going to go for the sweep tonight, do so successfully and win this game by two, sending the Yankees back to the East Coast.
