The Minnesota Twins close out a series in New York tonight as they battle the Yankees one last time. They’ve dropped the first two of this series, and need to avoid the sweep tonight, but they will get to host the Yanks in September if they can’t pull it off. Regardless, the Twins have lost three of their last four while New York has won three of four, giving us two teams trending in different directions.

Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees: MLB Picks & Predictions

Aaron Judge and the Yankees look to sweep the Twins tonight
New York sits six games back in the AL East, just a game and a half behind the Boston Red Sox for second place. Like I said, they’ve won three of their last four, but did lose five straight on the road not too long ago. They’ll need to turn their bats on in order to pick up another win tonight.
New York needs to be worried about wild card positioning, even with a month left in the regular season. Each win is crucial coming down the stretch.
Minnesota is sort of out of the running, a full 12 games behind the Detroit Tigers for first place, and 3.5 behind the Kansas City Royals for third. After selling plenty of their players at the deadline, it seems as if they are throwing in the towel on this season. However, Joe Ryan is on the bump, and he’s not going down without a fight.

There isn’t much to be excited about regarding the Twins at this point in the MLB season. However, I trust Ryan on the bump tonight. He is still one of the elite pitchers in the big leagues, and while the Yankees’ bats are powerful, they have been known to go into slumps from time to time. Plus, they strikeout a decent amount.
Let’s break down my favorite player prop.
Minnesota Twins vs. New York Yankees MLB Best Bets

Joe Ryan has 1.11 strikeouts per inning this season
Twins vs. Yankees MLB Prediction: Yankees Win, Under 8.5
Best Bet: Joe Ryan Over 6.5 Strikeouts (-125) Bovada
We’re paying a little juice but I trust Joe Ryan tonight. He is a diamond amongst the dumpster fire that is the Minnesota Twins at the moment, but that won’t stop him from shoving at Yankee Stadium.
Now, Ryan hasn’t reached this number in three straight starts, but he’s done so in 10/23 this season, and has reached six twice. He also had two in just one inning in the All Star Game. But the Yankees are known to swing and miss.
New York ranks No. 7 in the MLB in strikeouts, doing so 25.7% of the time. Against right handed pitchers, they strikeout just as often (25.6%). Now, they hit .250 as a team but .245 at home and against RHP. Plus, they are hitting just .224 as a team since the All Star Break and just .220 during the month of August.
Seven strikeouts might be asking for a lot, but if we get a prime Joe Ryan outing, it shouldn’t be an issue in five or six innings.
