Pete Alonso went hitless last night, but the Mets slugger is in a prime spot to bounce back. On the road this season, he has been outstanding—batting .308 with a .608 slugging percentage and a 1.013 OPS. Against right-handed pitching, he has been even better, carrying a .310 average and a .994 OPS into tonight’s matchup. The big man holds a great rating on Batters-Box’s default scale, which includes data from the past three years. On the current season ratings, he holds an elite rating.

Tonight he faces Spencer Strider, who continues to struggle. This is not your older brother’s Spencer Strider. He has the third-worst pitcher rating on the slate, per Batters-Box’s current season metrics, with poor marks in wOBA, ISO, hard contact, and ground ball rate. He is allowing 40% hard contact and leans heavily on the fastball—throwing it over 55% of the time. Alonso has been crushing fastballs all season.
