Mariners vs. Yankees: Cal Raleigh took the collar last night, but do not expect a repeat performance. He gets a dream matchup in the Bronx against a pitcher he profiles perfectly against. Everything about this setup screams bounce back.

After a quiet 0-for-4 night with two strikeouts, Mariners star catcher Cal Raleigh has another juicy matchup against Yankees starter Marcus Stroman. The Big Dumper loves hitting on the road, and there is no better ballpark for a road masher than the Bronx. This season, Raleigh owns a .285 average, .663 slugging, and 1.069 OPS away from home.
Tonight will mark the switch-hitting catcher’s 32nd elite rating of the season on Batters-Box. In those 31 elite-rated matchups, he has recorded a hit 67% of the time, two hits 29%, a home run 25%, and has gone over this prop just 42%—but that does not concern me. This matchup has me foaming at the mouth.
Raleigh vs. Stroman
Stroman has been nothing new this season. Through five starts, he owns a 7.45 ERA and 1.66 WHIP. Left-handed hitters are batting .292 with a .604 slugging and .950 OPS. Not a single pitch in his arsenal has been graded above average since 2023. I will not even count his current curveball—he has only thrown 19 innings. For context, his cutter is graded at -12. Yes, negative 12. Anything above +1.0 qualifies as a solid pitch. Nearly 64% of Stroman’s arsenal is made up of sinkers and curveballs, and Raleigh has feasted on both this season.
Against sinkers, Raleigh owns a +6.6 run value per 100 pitches, a .387 batting average, 1.440 OPS, and 300 wRC+. Against curveballs, he sports an .882 OPS, 160 wRC+, and a +2 run value. These are diabolical numbers against nearly 70% of Stroman’s pitch mix.
Despite the -115 juice on his bases prop, I still think this is one of the best matchups on the slate. Raleigh draws another crack at a struggling arm I have zero respect for. Sprinkle 2/1 on Raleigh to go yard tonight—for a little added fun.
