Mariners vs. Athletics: Cal Raleigh on the road is one of my favorite trends in baseball right now. The numbers are outrageous, and the matchup today is ideal. You are going to want a piece of this one before bed.

If you are into baseball stats, Cal Raleigh’s road numbers are some of my favorite trends to scroll through when the Mariners are away from Seattle. The AL MVP frontrunner is a menace in away games, and the data backs it up. When he owns an elite rating on Batters-Box while on the road, he records a hit 80.65% of the time, goes over his hits prop 58% of the time, clears 1.5 hits, runs, RBI 64% of the time, and leaves the yard nearly 40% of the time. That is a 31 elite rating sample size.
We are only getting started with these road splits. Against left-handed pitching on the road, the switch-hitting catcher owns a .328 average, 1.142 OPS, and 219 wRC+. Overall away from Seattle, he holds a .277 average, .638 slugging percentage, and a 1.031 OPS.
Raleigh vs. Springs
Today, the unlucky man standing in his way is Athletics left-hander Jeffery Springs. The southpaw owns a poor Batters-Box rating, a weak matchup ISO, and ground ball percentage. He mainly relies on his fastball and has only three pitches in his arsenal. Just one of those pitches—his slider, which makes up 27% of his usage—is above league average. Against sliders this season, Raleigh owns a .231 average, .923 OPS, 168 wRC+, and a 54.5% hard-hit rate.
The weather out in Sacramento should be perfect for hitters tonight. Temperatures will be in the 80s with winds blowing toward left-center. For a right-handed power bat like Raleigh, this is the ideal setup. Even RotoGrinders noted, “Winds blowing out at 10 mph, bump to bats.”
The $1.10 price for Raleigh’s total bases is just right. He is in the middle of a season where his number may not be this playable again. I love the idea of backing him before bed in what could be another explosive showing on the road.
