The Mets find themselves with the highest-rated offense in both default and current season ratings on Batters-Box. Their lineup features seven elite-rated hitters in the current season, with four batters above the league strikeout rate and two above the ground ball rate.
They face Guardians right-hander Slade Cecconi, who is allowing 48% hard contact this season. He holds the second-worst pitcher rating on the day, along with poor marks in wOBA, ISO, and strikeout percentage.
According to Hanidgraphs, over his last 60 plate appearances against left-handed hitters, Cecconi owns a .524 xERA, 46.7% hard-hit rate, and 1.8 HR/9. Lefties in that span have produced a .366 xBA, .602 xSLG, and .368 xwOBA. Why left-handed hitters? All seven elite-rated Mets hitters will be batting from the left side of the plate this evening.
At home this season, the Mets are the sixth-best team in wRC+. They are averaging 2.75 runs in the first five innings. Meanwhile, the Guardians are allowing 2.4 runs in the first five on the road.
Despite Cecconi’s road numbers, this feels like a spot where the Mets’ offense shows up in a big way. Seven elite-rated hitters are hard to ignore—especially when lefties are his clear weakness. Pay the $1.05 juice. It is worth it.
