Dodgers vs. Giants: We head into the final slate before the All-Star break, and it is time to dig a little deeper. One name that has yet to make our card this season finally gets the call. Dodgers catcher Will Smith has an ideal matchup this afternoon, and the data backs a strong edge on his bases prop.

The final day before the All-Star break calls for us to back a hitter we have not touched all season—Dodgers catcher Will Smith. We will be all over his total bases prop, set at 1.5 and priced at an enticing +135.
The 30-year-old catcher has feasted on left-handed pitching all season. He owns a .333 average, .603 slugging percentage, and a 1.051 OPS. On the road versus lefties, he has been even better—batting .333 with a 1.100 OPS and a 207 wRC+. This will mark Smith’s eighth elite matchup rating this season. In those spots, he has recorded the following:
-
Hit: 85.7%
-
2+ Hits: 71.4%
-
2+ Bases: 85.7%
-
2+ Hits + Runs + RBI: 85.7%
-
Home Run: 42.8%
It is a small sample size, but the hit rate speaks volumes when backed by this much data.
Smith vs. Ray
This afternoon, Robbie Ray takes the mound for San Francisco. He has struggled against right-handed bats at Oracle Park, where righties have posted a .240 average, sub-.400 SLG, and a .300 wOBA. Overall, hitters have seen him better at home, and his matchup ISO and ground ball rate both rate poorly this season. The 51% fastball-throwing southpaw is not a great fit against Smith’s profile.
Smith is hitting .300 with a .995 OPS and a 189 wRC+ against fastballs in 2024. He owns strong splits versus Ray’s entire arsenal. After a two-hit game on Friday and shaking off a hitless Wednesday, this is a perfect spot to back the Non-ACTION STARRRR, Will Smith.
