With their backs against the wall, the Arizona Diamondbacks kept their postseason dreams alive with Monday’s win over the Philadelphia Phillies. Now, a World Series trip is on the line when the two clubs meet for Game 7 of the NLCS on Tuesday.
The Diamondbacks marched into Citizens Bank Park last night and picked up an all-important 5-1 victory over the Phillies. Tommy Pham and Lourdes Gurriel Jr. each hit home runs for Arizona while RHP Merrill Kelly struck out eight batters with one earned run given up over five innings.
Can Arizona ride the momentum wave to another victory? Or will Philadelphia figure out a way to punch a ticket to its second straight World Series?

Diamondbacks vs Phillies Game 7 Prediction
Momentum is firmly on the Diamondbacks’ side after their massive Game 6 victory. Now, it’s up to the visitors to capitalize on that win if they want to make their first World Series appearance since winning it all in 2001.
It’s going to be up to starting pitcher Brandon Pfaadt to help Arizona take those first steps. The 25-year-old righty has been terrific this postseason, pitching to a 2.13 ERA with 15 strikeouts over 12 2/3 innings.
The rookie hurler also looked terrific on the mound in Game 3, striking out nine batters over 5 2/3 scoreless innings as the Diamondbacks went on to defeat the Phillies 2-1.
Meanwhile, Philadelphia is turning to Ranger Suarez, once again. Like Pfaadt, Suarez has been reliable for his team in the playoffs, going 1-0 with a 0.64 ERA in three starts. At the same time, the Venezuelan hurler has struggled against the D-backs in the past, pitching to a 1-3 record and 5.09 ERA in nine previous meetings (six starts).
But even with those past struggles, Suarez has a great opportunity to turn things around. The Diamondbacks aren’t playing well against lefties in the playoffs, slashing .229/.289/.373 with 19 strikeouts in 83 at-bats.
It’s also worth noting that the Phillies haven’t lost back-to-back home games in the 2023 MLB playoffs. In fact, they haven’t suffered consecutive losses at Citizens Bank Park since losing two straight to the Braves on Sept. 12/13.
In an NLCS Game 7 that could go either way, I’m inclined to back the Phillies. Their success at home can’t be ignored, as well as the fact that they know what it takes to make it to the World Series after having been their last fall.
The Diamondbacks will put up a good fight and Pfaadt will have a solid night on the mound, but it won’t be good enough to stop the Phillies.

One Diamondbacks vs. Phillies player prop that I like for Game 7 is for Philadelphia LHP Ranger Suarez to record at least four strikeouts.
Suarez comes through on this prop more often than not in 2023. He’s made 25 starts between the regular season and playoffs, recording 132 strikeouts over 139 innings while finishing with at least four Ks in 21 of those outings — including seven in Game 3.
With the Diamondbacks striking out an average of 9.6 times in their last 10 games, Suarez shouldn’t struggle to finish with four strikeouts tonight.
