Cubs vs. Braves: The Cubs enter tonight’s matchup in Atlanta with motivation and opportunity on their side. Last week, they struggled against Braves right-hander Bryce Elder, falling short despite a solid offensive showing. Tonight presents a chance for redemption, as Elder faces a lineup that is hitting with renewed confidence and timing. Chicago’s offense, ranked fifth highest today, features multiple elite and high-rated hitters, many of whom bat right-handed-exactly the profile that has given Elder trouble this season.
He is coming off a heavy workload last week, and his home numbers have been poor, with opposing hitters consistently generating strong contact. The Cubs have also been turning it around on the road, posting solid metrics in recent games, with multiple bats producing consistent hard contact. Combining motivation, favorable matchups, and a team gaining momentum, Chicago is poised to deliver an offensive performance capable of swinging the game and providing the perfect rebound against a struggling Elder.

Last week, the Cubs fell short of this number against Braves right-hander Bryce Elder. Tonight, however, feels like the perfect revenge spot for a Cubs offense that needs to start heating up as the season winds down.
Last Wednesday, Elder went seven innings, throwing over 100 pitches and allowing only one run on four hits at Wrigley. Now he must try to replicate that outing nearly a week later. That will be extremely difficult, especially after throwing more than 100 pitches. Elder has also struggled at home this season, posting a near 7.00 ERA, allowing 6.3 hits, and nearly four runs per start. Opposing hitters are batting over .300 against him in Atlanta.
Cubs vs. Elder
The 26-year-old right-hander faces the fifth-highest rated offense on the day, featuring two elite hitters, three rated great, and only one above the league strikeout rate. Three of the Cubs’ top five rated hitters bat from the right side. Elder has had significant trouble against right-handed bats this season, who are slashing .288/.337/.485/.822 against him. Over the last 30 right-handed hitters faced, they are making over 56% hard contact, with a .420 xBA, .671 xSLG, and .312 xwOBA. It is difficult to see how the Cubs do not bounce back after struggling against him last week.
In Elder’s last five home games, his ERA is 7.43 and his WHIP is 1.76. Opposing hitters have posted a .267 xBA, .421 xSLG, and .339 xwOBA over that span.
Cubs Trends
Chicago’s bats have been turning it around over the last two weeks, posting a wRC+ of 111, a .753 OPS, a .190 ISO, and a 37% hard-hit rate. In their last 60 plate appearances on the road, six hitters are batting above .250 with a wOBA above .325. Five have an OBP above .317 and an OPS above .740. Most of these hitters have favorable ratings today. Elder is due for a difficult outing against a team gearing up for a postseason run.
The Cubs are set up for a potentially explosive offensive performance in Atlanta tonight. Beyond the raw numbers, circumstances favor a Chicago rebound. Last week’s disappointment against Elder provides extra motivation for a lineup hitting with renewed confidence. The Cubs have shown the ability to adjust on the fly, forcing pitchers to work harder and driving up quality of contact in crucial moments.
Their recent road performances highlight a team gaining momentum, with multiple hitters seeing the ball well and generating consistent hard contact. Elder may be skilled, but fatigue, pressure, and a right-handed heavy lineup that has been timing pitches effectively create the perfect storm for runs. With a blend of veteran savvy and young talent, the Cubs are poised to capitalize on mistakes, stay aggressive in the strike zone, and deliver the kind of offensive night that can swing a series.
