Meanwhile, the Orioles are fresh off their first 100-win campaign in over 80 years and hope to start the season on a high note after getting swept by the Texas Rangers in the ALDS.

Angels vs Orioles Opening Day Prediction & MLB Picks Today (3/28): O’s Step Up
As both teams prepare to begin the 2024 MLB season, the Angels hope to perform better against the Orioles than they did last year.
These clubs clashed seven times during the previous season, resulting in five victories for the Orioles. The Angels couldn’t figure out how to string together consecutive wins as they were outscored 41-29 across the season-long series. Having said that, Los Angeles did win two of the four games at Camden Yards.
Still, the Angels have an uphill battle ahead of them this season now that Shohei Ohtani joined the Dodgers. Yes, they still have the likes of Mike Trout and Anthony Rendon, but Ohtani is a two-time AL MVP winner and finished fourth in Cy Young voting just two years ago. It’s going to take a lot to replace the dual-threat phenom.
The Angels also had a fairly average offense last season, so it’s easy to imagine things worsening with Ohtani’s departure.
On the flip side, the young Orioles averaged the seventh-most runs in 2023 and could be even more dangerous with the extra experience under their belts.
Anthony Santander was tied for the team lead with 28 home runs during the 2023 season.
When it comes to the Opening Day starting pitchers, the Angels are sending Patrick Sandoval to the mound. The veteran lefty is coming off a 2023 campaign that was quite mixed. After going 6-7 with a 3.95 ERA in his first 18 starts, the former 2015 11th-rounder pitched to a 1-6 record with a 4.44 ERA in his final 10 appearances.
Furthermore, Sandoval recorded a loss against the Angels on Sept. 6 after allowing four earned runs on seven hits over five innings of work.
Meanwhile, the Orioles are rolling with Corbin Burnes, who was acquired from the Milwaukee Brewers in February. Burnes, who won the NL Cy Young in 2021, is coming off a strong year that saw him go 10-8 with a 3.39 ERA and NL-leading 1.069 WHIP across 32 starts.

The Angels were bad last season and will only be worse without Ohtani. In other words, take the Orioles to win. Baltimore was one of Major League Baseball’s best teams in 2023 and will only improve with each passing game. With the Camden Yards crowd on their side, this game is the O’s to lose.
With that in mind, I’m also taking the Orioles on the run line. The moneyline doesn’t hold much value, after all. Besides, the Orioles love facing left-handed pitchers, proven by their ranking 12th in home runs, sixth in RBIs, 10th in batting average, and seventh in on-base percentage against southpaws last season.
Considering how they had a 58.2% success rate (2nd) against the run line in 2023, I like the Orioles odds to cover again.

Santander was one of Baltimore’s most productive players last season. He recorded a career-high 279 total bases with 141 of those being tallied across 75 home games — an average of 1.9 per outing. Furthermore, the 29-year-old veteran outfielder has racked up 24 total bases in his last nine games against the Angels, finishing with two or more seven times.
After amassing six TBs in his last encounter with Sandoval, look for Santander to make an impact.
