For more than a decade, Baron Davis commanded the court as one of the NBA’s top point guards, averaging 16.1 points per game and 7.2 assists per game across 13 seasons. His mastery of the dance floor, however, is a difference story, at least according to the likely outcome of his stint on Season 34 of Dancing with the Stars.
Last week, the new season premiered with Davis and 13 other celebrities and their professional dance partners strutting their stuff to a favorite song of each celebrity.
Davis and partner Britt Stewart danced a cha-cha-cha to the 1990 mega-hit “U Can’t Touch This” by MC Hammer, receiving two 5s from judges Derek Hough and Bruno Tonioli. Their total score of 10—Carrie Ann Inaba was absent from the premiere due to illness—tied them with Dylan Efron (brother of actor Zac Efron)/Daniella Karagach, Olympic gold medal-winning gymnast Jordan Chiles/Ezra Sosa, and Pentatonix singer Scott Hoying/Rylee Arnold. That quartet of pairs scored one point better than Week 1’s lowest-scoring duos, Corey Feldman/Jenna Johnson and Andy Richter/Emma Slater, each of whom received a total score of 9 for their dances.
As is the norm for the DWTS season premiere, there were no eliminations in Week 1 of Season 34.
However, tonight’s episode will feature a double elimination, whittling the field from 14 to 12.
Will Davis and Stewart survive to see another week? DWTS odds at BetOnline are only for this season’s winner, but they paint an ominous picture for Davis, who occupies the bottom rung of the ladder ahead of Week 2.
