Wisconsin may soon join the growing list of states offering regulated online sports betting.

Bill LRB-4723/1 seeks to establish a legal framework for online sportsbooks throughout Wisconsin. It outlines licensing requirements, responsible gaming measures, and taxation structures. 

Lawmakers backing the bill include Representative Tyler August (R-31), Senator Howard Marklein (R-17), and Senator Kristin Dassler-Alfheim (D-18).

The bill proposes excluding an event or sports wager from the definition of “bet.” It allows online sports betting only through mobile or electronic devices if the operator’s server is physically located on a federally recognized American Indian tribe’s lands.

Wagering must be conducted under compacts between the tribes and the state. This gaming model mirrors Florida’s online sports betting market, which relies on tribal-state agreements.
