SI Sportsbook to Shut Down Operations on July 28

SI Sportsbook to Cease Operations in July 28

SI Sportsbook will officially cease all operations in the United States on July 28, 2025. The sports betting platform, a joint venture between Sports Illustrated and 888 Holdings, announced the closure in a statement released earlier this week.

SI Sportsbook began notifying users via email, urging them to withdraw any remaining funds by the shutdown date. According to the notice, customers will not be able to place new bets after July 25. After July 28, the site and app will no longer be accessible.

“We’ve made the tough choice to shut down our operations,” SI Sportsbook informed users. “Your funds will remain safe and protected during this process.”

The decision comes less than three years after SI Sportsbook launched its first U.S. market in Colorado. The brand later expanded into Michigan, Virginia, and Iowa. However, it struggled to compete with larger online sportsbooks like FanDuel, DraftKings, and BetMGM.

888 Holdings confirmed it will now focus on other strategic areas, including B2B operations and international markets. The move also aligns with 888’s previously stated intention to exit the U.S. online sports betting space due to intense competition and high operating costs.

SI Sportsbook Couldn’t Capture Bigger Market

Industry analysts noted that the U.S. market continues to consolidate as only a few operators capture the majority of customer activity. Smaller online sportsbooks have found it difficult to gain significant market share.

SI Sportsbook’s exit marks another notable closure in the evolving American gaming landscape. While its departure is specific to sports betting, the decision could also impact adjacent sectors like online casino platforms, especially those considering expansion partnerships.

The company has assured users that all outstanding bets will be honored and that customer service will remain available for post-closure issues. Customers can reach out through the official SI Sportsbook website for assistance.

An Opening in the Michigan and other iGaming Markets

SI Sportsbook’s exit from Michigan creates a valuable opportunity for new operators eyeing the state’s growing iGaming market. With one of Michigan’s limited sportsbook licenses now vacated, companies looking to launch online sportsbooks or online casino platforms have a rare chance to enter.

Michigan remains one of the top-performing states for regulated online gambling, consistently generating strong monthly revenue. As a result, the newly opened slot is expected to attract serious interest from both domestic and international gaming brands.

Regulators may soon begin reviewing applications, setting the stage for fresh competition. This shift could lead to more choices and promotional offers for Michigan bettors in the near future.

As competition heats up in the U.S. gambling industry, more companies may reconsider their online sportsbook and real money online casino strategies. For now, SI Sportsbook joins a growing list of operators who entered the market with strong brands but failed to secure long-term success.
