Ontario’s regulated iGaming market delivered a historic performance in August 2025. Total combined wagers across online casinos, sports betting, and poker hit C$8.14 billion, setting a new monthly record under iGaming Ontario’s oversight. That sum reflects a 34.6% increase over the same month in 2024.
In July 2025, Ontario’s total wagering handle was lower. iGaming Ontario did not publish the exact July figure. However, industry analysts estimate July’s handle was in the mid-C$7-billion range. This suggests August delivered a month-on-month gain of several hundred million.
This surge in wagering marks just the second time Ontario’s regulated market has crossed the C$8 billion threshold.
Within that total, the online casino vertical drove the lion’s share of activity. In August, online casino revenue alone reached C$268 million, a strong year-over-year lift of about 45%.
Sports betting also grew, with operators reporting a 29% increase in gaming revenue in August compared with a year earlier.
Ontario iGaming: Can Canada Online Casinos Sustain Momentum Into Late 2025?
The strong August showing underscores the growing dominance of Canada online casinos in Ontario’s regulated gaming scene.
Casino games typically command around 85% of the total wagering volume in the Ontario market. That dominance reflects player preference for slots, live dealer games, and table variants over sports or poker.
However, sustaining this trajectory remains a challenge. Seasonal volatility, regulatory changes, and increased competition may temper growth.
Moreover, some operators warn that market saturation could slow new user acquisition. Yet others believe that new game content, cross-provincial expansions, and evolving mobile interfaces could sustain upward momentum.
If Ontario’s iGaming model proves resilient, it could further elevate the brand of Canada’ online casino market, reinforcing the appeal of regulated, safe platforms.
The August record sets a high bar, and whether this pace continues through fall and winter remains a key test for operators, regulators, and investors alike.
