Ontario iGaming Market Posted Record May Handle & Revenue

Ontario iGaming Records Highest Handle and Revenue in May 2025

Ontario iGaming has reached a huge milestone in May 2025, as it reached record handle and revenue since March 2025. Ontario’s iGaming market saw over $8.06 billion in wagers in May, rising 3% from April and breaking March’s record.

Compared to May 2024, total wagers in the regulated online casino market surged by 28.9%, showing strong year-over-year growth. Gross gaming revenue (NAGGR) also set a record in May, jumping 8% from April to reach $338 million.

Operators earned $10 million more than the previous high set in January and 40.5% more than May 2024. NAGGR includes total cash wagers, rake fees, tournament fees, and other charges, minus player winnings.

Ontario iGaming Platforms Increased, But Player Accounts Dropped

In May, 49 private operators and the Ontario Lottery and Gaming (OLG) ran online platforms in the market. That number grew to 51 in June after Maverick Games launched two weeks ago.

Despite revenue growth, active player accounts dropped from 1.09 million in April to below 1.07 million in May. This marked a 5.4% decline from the record high of 1.13 million active accounts in February.

However, online casino Canada operators still averaged $316 per active account in May, the highest since September 2024. Ontario’s iGaming market continues to be dominated by online casinos including slots, table games, live dealer, and bingo.

Online casinos consistently drive around 85% of total wagers and at least 70% of operator revenue.

Highest Handle Recorded in May

In May, online casinos set a new record with $6.95 billion in wagers, or 86% of the $8.06 billion total. That handle marked a 30.9% year-over-year increase, solidifying online casinos’ dominance in Ontario’s iGaming landscape.

Operators also earned a record $259.8 million from online casino games, making up 77% of May’s total revenue. Compared to last year, operator earnings from online casinos jumped 45.5%, showing explosive growth in that vertical.

More licensed platforms offer online casinos than sports betting, contributing to its commanding market share. Now more than ever, online casinos clearly drive the Ontario iGaming economy forward.
