The Florida Gaming Control Commission (FGCC) announced Alana Zimmer as its new Executive Director, signaling a strategic shift in the state’s gaming oversight. 

Her appointment follows a nationwide search to find a leader capable of navigating Florida’s complex gambling environment, including regulatory oversight of casinos and online sportsbooks.

Alana Zimmer: A New Era for Florida Gaming

Zimmer will oversee all aspects of gaming regulation in Florida, including the enforcement of gaming laws and licensing standards. 

The FGCC aims to ensure fair and transparent gaming practices while supporting economic growth and player protection. Her leadership arrives at a crucial time as the state continues discussions about expanding legalized gaming and addressing the rise of online sportsbooks.

FGCC Vice Chair Julie Imanuel Brown praised Zimmer’s selection, emphasizing her leadership and deep understanding of regulatory frameworks. 

“Alana has shown outstanding leadership throughout her career, and I am confident she will work hard to eliminate illegal gambling and support Florida citizens and businesses,” Brown said. 

“We welcome Alana back to Florida and Tallahassee, where she went to college at Florida State University. We are excited to see where all her talents and skills will take FGCC.”

Zimmer’s appointment reflects Florida’s growing commitment to balancing innovation and responsibility in its gaming sector. Her experience will be essential as the FGCC continues refining its approach to emerging technologies and digital wagering platforms.

A Strong Background in Modern Gaming Leadership

Alana Zimmer brings more than a decade of experience in gaming regulation and public administration. 

Before joining the FGCC, she served as Director of Policy and Strategic Initiatives at the Kansas Lottery. There, she led efforts to modernize gaming operations, enhance transparency, and promote responsible gaming initiatives.

Zimmer’s work in Kansas included expanding digital engagement and integrating data-driven oversight, aligning perfectly with Florida’s current push toward modernization. 

Her approach emphasizes collaboration among lawmakers, tribal entities, and gaming operators to ensure sustainable growth.

“I am honored to be appointed by the Florida Gaming Control Commission as its Executive Director,” Zimmer stated. “My experience with modernizing the Kansas Lottery and expanding responsible gaming initiatives will transfer well to my new role as the FGCC Executive Director. I look forward to working closely with the Governor and Legislature on improving and expanding responsible gaming in Florida.”
