Thomas, McIlroy Among Top Quail Hollow Contenders
Recently, Quail Hollow has hosted a PGA Tour signature event—formerly known as the Wells Fargo Championship and now known as the Truist Championship—the week prior to the PGA Championship.
This year, however, that tournament is in Philadelphia, as Quail Hollow preps to host a major for just the second time. Eight years ago, it was the site of the first of Justin Thomas’s two PGA Championship wins, as he finished two strokes clear of Francesco Molinari, Louis Oosthuizen, and Patrick Reed.
Last month, Thomas won for the first time since the 2022 PGA Championship, claiming the RBC Heritage in a playoff over Andrew Novak.
Thomas, who also has two runner-up finishes this season, will be expected to contend at Quail Hollow and vie to become just the seventh golfer to win the PGA Championship three or more times, a club that currently consists of Gene Sarazen, Walter Hagen, Sam Snead, Jack Nicklaus, Tiger Woods, and Brooks Koepka.
Another player looking to join that club will be Rory McIlroy, who won the tournament in 2012 and 2014. McIlroy will be playing with much less pressure after finally completing the career Grand Slam with a thrilling Masters win last month.
Like Thomas, McIlroy has made some memories at Quail Hollow. It was the site of his first PGA Tour win in 2010, and he has won there three times since, including last year.

Where is the 2025 PGA Championship being held?
The 2025 PGA Championship will be played at Quail Hollow Club in Charlotte, North Carolina.
Quail Hollow is a 7,600-yard, par-71 course and annually hosts the tournament now known as the Truist Championship, which is one of the PGA Tour’s eight signature events.
